IN THE NEWS: The risk of a common cold or flu DROPS with the use of probiotics In a common misconception, many people think of a common cold or flu as nothing more than a ‘nuisance.’ An annoying cough-fest with body aches and chills. In other words, nothing too serious, right? Well, not really. But, that’s not to say we should live in fear of these infections either. In an article published in Frontiers of Immunology, the authors report that influenza is a leading cause of catastrophic disability in older adults – and can be life-threatening. In a placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 250 participants and published in Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, researchers tested a cocktail of 5 different strains of probiotic bacteria against the flu. The team found that the mixture drastically reduced the incidence of both colds and influenza, with the placebo group experiencing 16 episodes of flu –as compared to 3 in the probiotic group. In other words, those who didn’t take probiotics were over four times more likely to develop influenza!

In fact, this change from higher outside relative humidity to lower indoor relative humidity in the winter is a significant contributing factor in the spread of colds and flus. By maintaining the proper level of humidity indoors, you reduce illness in the winter. Studies have shown that the body's immune system will function better when the relative humidity in a home is between 45%-65%.
Pneumococcus, staphylococcus, and streptococcus bacteria die up to 20 times faster at a relative humidity between 45% and 55%, than above 70% or below 20%. Dehydration can also cause negative health effects. Symptoms of dehydration include dry skin, chronic joint and muscle pain, raspy throat, sinus and nasal pain, sore eyes, a lack of mental concentration, and a decrease in the body's immune system.

Dry air can cause or irritate sinus problems, but inhaling moisture can help. Simply breathing the steam from a hot shower will ease congestion.
You can also enhance the steam you breathe with sinus-clearing essential oils. Once or twice a day, add five drops of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), or sandalwood (Santalum album) essential oils (or a combination) to a large bowl of steaming-hot water, suggests Sylvia Goldfarb, Ph.D., of Wyncote, Pa., author of Allergy Relief (Avery Penguin Putnam, 2000). Drape a towel over your head and the bowl, and breathe deeply for 10 minutes. You'll feel relief within that time.
To treat acute sinusitis, substitute tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) and repeat the sinus steam three to four times daily. To rinse your sinuses, use a neti pot, a small teapot-like device sold at most natural food stores. Combine three parts non-iodized salt and one part baking soda, and add 1/2 teaspoon of this mixture to 1/2 cup of warm water in the pot. This solution matches your body's salinity, and baking soda makes it less irritating to your sinuses.
Lean over a sink and insert the spout of the pot into your left nostril. Tilt your head and the pot to the right and let the solution flow out your right nostril. Exhale forcefully through both nostrils and repeat on the other side. Repeat as needed.
The zing of certain spices opens clogged sinuses and promotes drainage. As condiments, use hot salsas or chutneys that contain chiles, or sprinkle cayenne pepper on your food, recommends Goldfarb or use wasabi.

Proper Health starts with the correct acid-alkaline balance in your body. The pH level (acid - alkaline measurement) of our internal fluids affects every cell in our bodies. Extended acid imbalances of any kind can overwhelm your body, and lead to health complications.
Just as the body regulates its temperature in a rigid manner, so will it manage to preserve a very narrow pH range - especially in the blood. As a matter of fact, the body will go to such great lengths to maintain a blood pH of 7.365 that it will even create stress on other tissues, body systems, and organs to do so. Chronic acidity will interrupt all cellular activities and functions - it interferes with life itself.
When the pH of the body gets out of balance (too acidic), we may experience low energy, fatigue, excess weight, poor digestion, aches and pains, and even more serious disorders.
The cycle of acidity begins primarily as a result of three things:
1. Ingesting acids. Eating too many acidifying foods like processed sugar, meats, dairy, coffee, alcohol, etc. Create an acid ash in the body. These acids can overload the body's ability to neutralize them.
2. Creation of acids. Pathogens and microforms create acidifying toxins in the body. As the body becomes more and more acidic, bad bacteria, yeasts and other microforms proliferate in the body. Since these organisms are living, they eat as well as create resulting toxins. These toxins are often very acidifying.
3. Improper elimination of acids. Not all acids are the same; some are weak and some are strong. Weak acids like citric acid are much easier to neutralize than strong acids like uric acid. The body uses many systems in order to buffer acids including breath, mineral reserves, and fat. When the body's buffering systems become compromised, excess acids build up.
The process of reestablishing acid-alkaline balance begins with proper diet and nutrition. This includes eating alkalizing foods (vegetables, low sugar fruits, etc.), super hydration (drinking plenty of alkaline water), and proper supplementation.
Keeping yourself BALANCED is your first line of defense in fighting any disease and alkaline water creates a major impact in balancing the body's pH.
A body that is too acidic provides the ideal environment for diseases to manifest and thrive in. For example, accumulated acid waste in the joints encourages inflammation and arthritis. It turns acidic wastes into solids and stores them in fatty tissues resulting in hardening of the arteries and excess weight. Our body also tries to buffer the effect of this excess acid by taking calcium from the bones, and magnesium needed for heart health.

Understanding pH Values
For those not familiar with pH scales:
Pure acid is pH 0
Pure alkaline is pH 14
Neutral (neither acid nor alkaline) is pH 7
pH 7 is ten times more alkaline than pH 6
pH 8 is 100 times more alkaline than pH 6
pH 9 is 1,000 times ore alkaline than pH 6
How much do I drink?
Your water needs are based on your body weight. Half your body weight is your cleansing dose and 80% of that is your minimum because otherwise you're dehydrated.
100 pound person, 50 ounces is their cleansing dose and 40 ounces is a minimum of fluids they should drink every day.
How much alkaline water should I drink? That depends on your pH. We carry very sensitive pH paper for determining your urine pH which is the pH we base your need for alkaline water on. If you're a vegetarian and your pH is already alkaline then you can just drink regular filtered water. But if your pH is lower than 6.4 then you need to drink alkaline water. I would recommend 1 L a day minimum. Depending on your weight more might be indicated.
How alkaline of water should I drink? Water can come from about 7.8 to 10. You can drink water that is to alkaline for you and it is best to be tested at our office to determine the best pH. Waters with a pH of 9 to 9.5 tend to test the best, but your situation might be different.
Both saliva and urine pH should be 6.4. When you maintain that then your blood and cells will be able to maintain the pH that is right for them. Saliva pH indicate your digestive pH whereas urine pH indicates your body pH. So for determining your need for alkaline water urine pH is the one to watch. Also it is recommended not to drink alkaline water with meals. If you're going to drink water with a meal I recommend squeezing several lemon or lime slices in the water to make it acidic. Lemon and lime will be alkaline on your body yet acid in your stomach.
I don't keep up with drug sales let alone the actions and side effects of all the latest drugs. But I would think antacids must be making pharmaceutical companies literally billions of dollars each year. (The January 8, 2001 issue of Business Week mentions that Priolsec is the top selling prescription drug in the world. It earns Astra Zeneca (the drug’s maker) 6 billion dollars per year.)
One of the reasons that antacids sell so well is that they stop the pain in 60-70% of the cases. (A recent online survey of over 4200 patients taking Priolosec.) If you're troubled with chronic acid reflux and you can take a pill and all the pain just disappears, it seems like you're doing the right thing, doesn't it? Before you answer that let me explain the digestive process and then ask you that question again.
Digestion is literally a miracle. All the different types of foods and yet your body knows the exact enzymes and the correct amount to properly breakdown each food to its simplest component. Complex carbohydrates are broken down into simple sugars, proteins are broken down into their individual amino acids and fats and oils are reduced to their individual fatty acids. And then the process of properly absorbing these nutrients along with the vitamins, minerals and enzymes plus other things that were still learning about. If you eat different foods you get different kinds and amounts of enzymes to digest them.
As you chew your food you help break it down for your stomach as well as blend it with saliva which helps start the whole process. As the food enters the stomach it starts to churn and release digestive enzymes. Hydrocloric acid (HCl) is one of the most important enzymes that the stomach releases. The amount of HCl that leaves the stomach with the food entering the small intestines stimulate fluids from the liver and gallbladder as well as enzymes from the pancreas to complete the digestive process. It is essential that the right amount of HCl enters the small intestines to begin a wavelike motion called peristalsis that help move the food throughout the intestines. If the level of HCl is less than ideal then every other step in the digestive process is compromised.
It's like when you have a row of dominos stacked together and push the first one over a chain reaction happens. Without HCl the rest of the digestive process is severely compromised. If you don't produce the right amount of enzymes then you cannot breakdown your foods properly. If you don’t break your foods down properly you can not absorbe nutrients that your body requires. Studies of individuals who have used antacids over a long peiord of time find evidence of malnutrition. Doesn't that make sense? What do antacids do? They severely reduced if not completely block the release of HCl. Remember the chain of dominos.
When you consistently reduced the amount of HCl that is released from your stomach that causes a series of changes in the lining of your stomach. A healthy stomach has a mucous lining that protects the stomach from its own acids. When the body senses that this coating has been reduced it automatically reduces the amount of HCl it secretes. As this happens the stomach will churn more to help break down the foods. After a series of processes, this increase of abnormal stomach contractions can force what little bit of HCl you produce up into the esophagus.
This can cause a burning or painful sensation from your stomach up into the back of your throat. This is called acid reflux. This condition is rarely due to the overproduction of HCl. If this problem is not corrected over a lifetime the chronic inflammation to the cells can lead to cancer. But be forewarned, the chronic suppression of HCl with antacids will lead to incompletely digested food irritating your intestines and increasing your chance for colon cancer. Usually the mechanism I described above is leading to the inappropriate release of HCl into the esophagus. It is true eliminating the amount of HCl you produce will relieve symptoms. It's also true that these drugs will relieve you of the normal digestive process.
Now the main question is this- is the choice between symptom relieve with drugs or suffering pain with each meal? No! By properly correcting the dysfunction within the digestive system you can, not only restore proper function without drugs, you can also overcome your acid reflux.
There are several principles to good digestion. Completely chewing your food, not combining proteins with sweet fruits, don't eat too quickly, eat foods that are consistent with your body and blood type, too much dairy with a meal could interfere with the digestive process and watch the junk food. Fiber helps move the food through your digestive system.
A lot of time patients with digestive problems also notice that they have discomfort between the shoulder blades. Neurologically this is very significant. The nerves between the fourth thoracic and eight thoracic are some of the most important controlling nerves to your digestive system. If you carry nerve pressure in your upper back then your digestive system is most likely compromised. Now remember, you can have nerve pressure without back symptoms, though alot of patients with acid reflux know what I'm talking about when I talk about discomfort between their shoulder blades.
B-vitamins are very important when it comes to digestion and because you can't store B-vitamins. A good percentage of patients with digestive problems also have deficiencies in some of their B-vitamins. We also use targeted nutritional formulas to help restore the normal lining of the stomach along with diet and Chiropractic adjustments.
The care I just outlined for acid reflux is also extremely beneficial from most other digestive problems. Chiropractic care is the most effective treatment on the planet for digestive disorders. Most other approaches, even with gastroenterologists, focus primarily on symptom relieve and not correction.
Now let me ask you that question again and tell me if you might have a different answer. If you're troubled with chronic acid reflux and you can take a pill and all the pain just disappears, it seems like you're doing the right thing, doesn't it? Are you?
Can Vitamin C help with concussions?
How should hockey star Sidney Crosby, or my own child, be treated if he suffered a brain concussion?
To answer this question I interviewed Dr. Andrew Saul, editor-in-chief of the Orthomolecular Medical News Service, and a world authority on nutrition. Dr. Saul confirmed what I suspected, that bruised brains are not receiving the treatment they desperately need.
Newton's Law states, "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." Unfortunately, our Maker didn't use screws to anchor the human brain inside its skull. So, without this protection, sudden blows to the head toss the brain against a formidable hard skull, causing various degrees of injury.
But there's a problem. It's easy to diagnose a fractured arm, but impossible to know the amount of brain injury after a concussion.
Concussion causes a variety of symptoms such as headache, double vision and the feeling of "having my bell rung." So some hockey players do not remember the score. Or they suffer seizures, weakness on one side, and loss of consciousness. Dr. Karen Johnston, neurosurgeon at McGill University, Montreal, states a cardinal rule: "Players suspected of having a concussion must sit out the game. They must never be told to 'shake it off' or left alone, and must be seen by a physician."
The time honoured therapy for concussion is rest and a gradual return to the game. But recent research shows that some activity can improve the outcome.
Researchers also stress the need for sound nutrition. For instance, the body needs renewed magnesium and zinc as it loses these minerals after concussion. Omega -3 fatty acids, abundant in fish oil, help to decrease inflammation. Vitamin D is also believed to be neuroprotective along with a high protein diet.
But I suggested to Dr. Saul, "If my child suffered a concussion I'd ask doctors to immediately start an intravenous infusion containing 30,000 to 100,000 milligrams of Vitamin C. I'd continue this dose for one week to decrease inflammatory risk and reduce brain damage." Saul agreed. He replied, "Yes, it makes complete sense as the blood level of C is depressed following trauma such as a concussion. We also know that vitamin C is a great antioxidant and helps to repair injured tissue."But his follow up surprised me. "I would take vitamin C", he added, "in advance of any contact sport, especially an open battle like hockey." Saul was saying what should always be preached, that "prevention is better than cure." It's true whether dealing with cardiovascular disease or concussion.
I've repeatedly stressed that high doses of Vitamin C decrease the risk of heart attack. The vast majority of doctors, however, disagree with me. They are convinced that only cholesterol-lowering drugs prevent coronary attack.
There should be no disagreement on this issue as stress has been proven to decrease blood levels of C. For instance, cancer patients have one-third the amount of C needed by the body, those with diabetes one-half, and after traumatic accidents like concussion, the level can decrease to just 10%! The sad news is that C's magic and safety has been known for decades but ignored by the medical profession. I believe that Vitamin C, given intravenously, can cure viral diseases like polio, meningitis, encephalitis, measles, heal burns, and even neutralize the toxin of a poisonous snake. And I've personally been cold-free for years due to a high intake of C.
Dr. Frederick R. Klenner, who first cured polio with Vitamin C, created another rule. High doses of C must be administered for success. Will Sidney Crosby or other players get high doses of intravenous Vitamin C for a concussion? It's most unlikely.
History shows that it's hard to change ingrained habits of the medical establishment.
But individuals can get smart. Or as Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, preached, "always choose the least sensational treatment." Again Vitamin C fits the bill.

WELLNESS: Long-term marijuana use linked to changes in brain's reward system People who use marijuana for many years respond differently to natural rewards than people who don't use the drug, according to a new study. "This study shows that marijuana disrupts the natural reward circuitry of the brain, making marijuana highly salient to those who use it heavily," study author Dr. Francesca Filbey, an associate professor of behavioral and brain science at the University of Texas at Dallas, said in a statement. "In essence, these brain alterations could be a marker of transition to problematic use." The researchers also looked at the relationship between certain problems linked to marijuana use, such as family issues, and the people's brain responses to the pictures of marijuana paraphernalia. It turned out that the more problems that people's marijuana use was related to, the more their brains responded to the marijuana cues. "The greater the number of problems they had indicating potential cannabis use disorder, the greater the alterations are in their response to the cues," Filbey told Live Science.

Most people today realize the importance of natural laws like proper diet and nutrition when it comes to good health. It was only about 45 to 50 years ago that even medical doctors weren’t so sure about that. I remember watching a debate between a cardiologist and a lay nutritional expert arguing about the importance of nutrition for healthy hearts. The cardiologist actually stated that foods are only needed for energy and there was no other nutritional benefit from eating foods. He totally dismissed the importance of vitamins and minerals and he was a doctor. So the fact that laypeople might have confusion about diet is understandable. There are 2 components about nutrition that I would like to speak to. One of those is diet and matching the proper ratio of fats,carbs and proteins to particular genetic makeup.
In some ways we’re all the same but in other ways we are different. Our genetic code determines how we utilize certain nutrients. Our body shapes will require different ratios of fats carbohydrates and proteins. So the foundation of proper nutrition is eating the right diet for your particular body type.
Nutritional therapy, using supplements to balance body chemistry, is the focus of this discussion. Just like each different body type requires a different ratio of fats carbs and proteins each individual has slightly different demands for certain nutrition. That’s one reason why a multivitamin is completely unable to supply what a given person needs. There are even some studies that show negative effects from taking multivitamins. When we go about developing an overall strategy to help someone recover their health certain testing might be indicated. DIET: Eating soy may protect against reproductive effects of BPA Eating soy foods may help protect against reproductive effects of bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical in many plastic consumer products and lining the inside of some canned foods, according to a study of women undergoing fertility treatments. BPA is known to mimic estrogen in the body, and therefore it's believed to disrupt conception and implantation of a fertilized egg in the womb, the researchers write in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. IN THE NEWS: Cell phones and risk of brain tumors (CNN)The city of Berkeley, California, passed a law that goes into effect next month requiring cell phone stores to inform customers about safety recommendations. The move reopened a decades-old debate about whether mobile phones cause brain tumors. Note: this is a controversial issue that will stay that way because not everybody shares equal sensitivity to the radiation from a cell phone. Because that’s the case studies will be “inconclusive” yet a good percent of the population are susceptible to damage from cell phone radiation. Kids with developing brain are going to be more susceptible and there is strong evidence with tumors growing on the side they hold their phones up to. DIET: SUGAR MAY INCREASE BREAST, LUNG CANCER RISK, STUDY FINDS Table sugar may increase the risk of breast cancer, according to a new animal study from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Previous research has drawn a link between higher sugar intake and breast cancer development, suggesting inflammation as a source, but the current study instead looked at the role of sugar in mammary gland tumor development. The study found that at six months of age, 30 percent of mice on a starch-control diet had measurable tumors, while 60 to 58 percent of mice on sucrose-enriched diets developed mammary tumors. Study authors said moderate sugar consumption is critical, as the per capita consumption of sugar in the United States is more than 100 pounds per year, and increased consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages is a significant contributor to the worldwide epidemics of obesity, heart disease and cancer.
IN THE NEWS: STUDY MAY REVEAL WHY SOME PEOPLE LIVE TO 100 A new study suggests that centenarians have fewer genes linked to major illnesses. Science may be closer to figuring out why some people live so darn long. Researchers studying 1,800 people over the age of 100 and another 5,400 over the age of 90 discovered four genes linked to their longevity, Live Science reports. In short, centenarians seem to have fewer genes connected to major diseases, according to Time. “It seems intuitively obvious that avoiding disease is part of the strategy of becoming a centenarian,” Time quotes Kim as saying. But he notes that conclusion goes against "really strong dogma in the field." Most researchers tend to believe undiscovered anti-aging genes are responsible, but Kim posits it could be much simpler: Centenarians may just get fewer diseases.

IN THE NEWS: THE 'DEVASTATING' PLAGUE OF THE PRESCRIPTION PAINKILLER: US DRUG OVERDOSES HIT RECORD HIGH - WITH 61% OF DEATHS LINKED TO OPIOIDS Drug overdose deaths in the US hit record highs in 2014 because of widespread prescription painkiller abuse, according to a government report. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said overdose deaths increased by 6.5 per cent in 2014 – taking 47,055 lives in the US. That figure is the highest reported in the country since at least 1970, CDC records revealed. Specifically, rates went up in Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Of that group, West Virginia had the highest overdose rate of 35.5 per 100,000, whereas the national rate was approximately 15 per 100,000. Researchers at Southern Illinois University have made progress on incorporating turmeric into food processing and preparation surfaces—think cutting boards, knives, and countertops—according to a university news release. You would think healthcare would be a straightforward profession of people who just want to help other people get well. Unfortunately politics and rivalry gets involved with healthcare as well. Soon after the AMA was started, its attack on other professions was one of their main jobs. Most people think the AMA is a public service organization but they would be wrong because the AMA is a union for medical doctors. Like any other union their main job is to make the working environment for their members as profitable as possible. Part of that strategy included demonizing other professions that they saw as competitors. In the past, medicine has fought battles to limit the practices of such professionals as homeopaths, naturopaths, osteopaths, podiatrists, optometrists, dentists, psychologists and chiropractors. In the case of osteopathy and chiropractic, there are distinct differences in the approach to healing and health when compared to medicine. The last thing that organized medicine wants is for their doctrine of drugs and surgery to be challenged.
For dentists they had oral surgeons, for podiatrist and chiropractic physicians they had orthopedic surgeons. And for osteopaths they were the alternative. So if they could eliminate those other professions that would mean more money in the pockets of their members, they gave up the fight against dentistry years ago they saw that was a losing battle. Even though you might not hear a lot about propaganda against podiatry it's still there to some degree. When it comes to surgery on the foot and leg podiatrist tend to have the more sophisticated and effective techniques yet you won’t hear that from the AMA. When I was in school the osteopathic profession set down with the medical profession and worked out a truce. Today you won’t hear much animosity between these two professions though when I’ve talked to osteopaths they still say they’re treated like second-class citizens from the medical profession. But it seems their fight against chiropractic has historically been their most vicious. I assume they saw the writing on the wall that the stronger chiropractic got the more they would lose a share of the patient population. Because studies show when patients have equal access they pick natural healthcare over drugs and surgery by a large numbers.
It was in 90s that the AMA commissioned a study on health practices and found more people were visiting doctors like chiropractic physicians then medical physicians. That was a shock to them and they immediately started to propagate changes in insurance coverage so more and more people would lose their access to chiropractic. Sometime back I believe in the 20’s they change the committee's name that was fighting chiropractic to the “committee on quackery”. Very interesting use of language.
Medicine's opposition to chiropractic was at its strongest under the leadership of Morris Fishbein. Fishbein as Secretary of the American Medical Association from 1924 to 1949, lead a 50 year anti-chiropractic campaign in both professional publications and the public media. Fishbein called chiropractors "rabid dogs" and referred to them as "playful and cute..but killers." He tried to portray chiropractors as members of an unscientific cult, caring about nothing but taking their patients money.
I guess since over 3000 people a week die from medical care they never heard the adage people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Any given year that you calculate death rates from the CDC website you will find that medicine is either the first or second leading cause of death. It takes a little work adding up all the different categories that they have listed under medical care but that’s been true for a long time. Chiropractic is not only the safest of the three largest healthcare professions in the US but we have the lowest malpractice rates. I guess that’s something Fishbein did not look into on his campaign against chiropractic.
In the October 1976, Chiropractic sued the AMA in federal court for discrimination and won the case. Wilk, et al vs. the AMA, et al It took several years because the AMA played every legal trick in the book but as soon as the case was brought many medical concerns quickly settled and stop their anti-chiropractic rhetoric. In 1987 , following 11 years of legal action, a federal appellate court judge ruled that the AMA had engaged in a “lengthy, systematic, successful and unlawful boycott” designed to restrict cooperation between MDs and chiropractors in order to eliminate the profession of chiropractic as a competitor in the United States health care system.
During the preceedings it was shown that the AMA attempted to:
Undermine Chiropractic schools
Undercut insurance programs for Chiropractic patients
Conceal evidence of the effectiveness of Chiropractic care
Subvert government inquires into the effectiveness of Chiropractic
Promote other activities that would control the monopoly that the AMA had on health care
(This was upheld by the 7th United States Circuit Court of Appeals.)
The AMA offered a patient care defense; however, data from Workmen's Compensation Bureau studies served to validate chiropractic care. Specifically, studies comparing chiropractic care to care by a medical physician were presented which showed that chiropractors were “twice as effective as medical physicians, for comparable injuries, in returning injured workers to work at every level of injury severity.”
The settlement of the suit included an injunctive order in which the AMA was instructed to cease its efforts to restrict the professional association of chiropractors and AMA members. The AMA was also ordered to notify its 275,000 members of the court's injunction. In addition, the American Hospital Association (AHA) sent out 440,000 separate notices to inform hospitals across the United States that the AHA has no objection to allowing chiropractic care in hospitals.
Since the court findings and conclusions were released, a growing number of medical doctors, hospitals, and health care organizations in the United States have begun including the services of chiropractors.
But for several years that term "quack" has been identified with natural healthcare practitioners particularly chiropractic which is the largest of natural healthcare practice in the world. What was both amusing and sad is during the deposition of the leader of that group it was shown how dishonest and despicable their activities were. One of the general claims against chiropractic is that chiropractic care caused multiple deaths. Not only was this claim unfounded, during the deposition he had to admit he had no proof of that claim but that was just his personal belief based on no objective findings. But no matter how immoral and how dishonest their activities were they did have an effect. There are people today who will not take a vitamin or go to a natural health care practitioner particularly a chiropractic physician because of the propaganda they heard years ago. But since they lost the court case they closed down the most egregious propaganda outlets. Now they still have friends in the private sector that will be glad to regurgitate their propaganda but they no longer can officially be involved with it. So they have been working underground more to reduce chiropractic coverage in insurance.
As mentioned earlier the court case showed that not only was chiropractic not effective, which they preached for years, but it was twice as effective as their approaches for the same condition. Ouch! The government did a study on low back pain which is the number one health condition in the United States and found the most effective treatment on the planet was spinal manipulation (adjustments).On December 8, 1994, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) of the US Department of Health and Human Services. It's unfortunate that lies can hang around for period of time but that's all they ever were, lies. When people are given equal access to chiropractic care or medical care they choose natural healthcare more often. That's why you find some insurances not having full access to chiropractic, the AMA still has their hand in the pot working behind the scenes.
With a number of conditions that chiropractic can safely and effectively treat growing all the time chiropractic should be your first approach. Chiropractic is both safe and effective and chiropractors refer to other professions more than the reverse. If medical doctors followed the government guidelines for just low back pain there would not be enough chiropractors in practice to serve all the people suffering from this condition. Yet some in the medical profession would rather have their patients suffer then refer them to the most effective treatment on the planet, how sad. Fortunately that trend has been changing over the past several years and as the older medical doctors die off more people will be referred to safe and effective chiropractic care. A high percentage of the new medical doctors coming into practice are turned off by politics. They realize the dangers of pain pills and are referring more of their patients to chiropractic physicians based on research not politics.

IN THE NEWS: Few US adults meet fruit, vegetable intake guidelines Less than 15 percent of U.S. adults eat enough fruits daily to meet federal recommendations, but the numbers are even worse in some states, dipping as low as 7.5 percent in Tennessee, according to a new study. Even fewer adults eat enough vegetables to meet recommendations, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) researchers found. Overall, in 2013, half of respondents consumed fruit less than once per day and vegetables less than 1.7 times per day. Fruit consumption was lowest in Tennessee, with about seven percent of people meeting the recommendation, and highest in California, with 17.7 percent meeting the recommendation, Moore’s team writes in CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. The proportion of Americans meeting vegetable recommendations ranged from 5.5 percent in Mississippi to 13 percent in California.
WELLNESS: Magnetic pulses may ease ringing in the ears People with tinnitus - a ringing or other "phantom" sounds in their ears - may benefit from a treatment that sends electromagnetic pulses into the brain, suggests a new study. Transcranial magnetic simulation (TMS) is not currently available for the average person with tinnitus, but the study's lead author hopes it will someday be used along with existing therapies like hearing aids and symptom management strategies. For the new study of 64 people with significant ringing in their ears, the researchers randomly assigned half the participants to receive 2,000 TMS pulses during sessions over 10 consecutive business days. The other half of the participants received sham TMS. The sessions lasted approximately 35 minutes each. Overall, 56 percent of participants receiving TMS improved by the end of the 10 sessions, compared to 22 percent of the participants who received sham TMS. "Some people responded quite well," Folmer said. "We were surprised they maintained their improvement throughout the six months of follow-up. I thought if people showed an improvement it would be short-lived."

It is said that we get sick one cell at a time and we get well one cell at a time. The natural healing process can be subtle sometimes, particularly if you are used to a drug affect in dealing with symptoms. If we’re talking about chiropractic adjustments, the purpose is to establish normal nervous system function. The body knows exactly what to do to maintain proper function (health), just sometimes it can’t express that information because of stress on key nerves. Be it acid reflux, allergies, headaches, back pain or hormonal imbalances the body knows how to correct these. But when the communication channels of the body get compromised by misalignments, the body is not able to maintain normal function and thus disease is the result. It can take months and maybe years before that disease becomes manifest through symptoms. And so when you start care you might think because the symptoms just started last week or last month that it’s a young condition. The truth is this condition could’ve taken years to first become symptomatic. Yes the symptoms started last week or last month but the condition started years before.
As we begin to correct the problem at the spine then cells that have been functioning improperly take time to heal and reestablish normal function. Luckily symptoms can disappear fairly quickly in most cases and this can be confusing to patients because when the pain is gone or the symptom has left, they can think that they are well again. This can cause them to mistakenly end care too soon. And thus the condition will continue to develop underground until you have breakthrough symptoms eventually, which could be somewhat different than the symptoms you had before.
A similar scenario happens when we are doing nutritional therapy. Nutrients due to faulty diet, stress and other factors can become imbalanced or deficient over time. This will cause cells to start to malfunction and when enough cells are malfunctioning then the organ will start to malfunction. Again symptoms will be the last to appear and usually represent something that’s taken months if not years to develop. As we determine what nutrients are necessary to restore normal function it can take time for the body to do the healing. Again when the symptoms leave it doesn’t mean the process is completed.
There are a series of steps that tend to take place in all healing. The body will need to detox poisons that have developed due to faulty diet and systems that are not functioning properly and thus not detoxing properly. And then nutrient levels have to be reestablished and rebalanced in order for cells to start functioning properly. And as enough cells start to function as they should then the organ will start to function better. The body will start replacing weak and sick cells with stronger or more healthy cells. And so you literally get healthier one cell at a time. As cells and thus organs start to function better then the body as a whole needs to rebalance how organs and glands are functioning in order to maintain overall health.
Health is really more of a journey than a destination. You’re never going to reach 100% health, that’s a goal that you always reach for. And in the process of reaching for better health you will find yourself functioning in much better health. As your body functions better you notice better energy, more restorative sleep, better mental focus and memory, more endurance and less susceptibility to illness.
There are five basic steps that you should always be taking on a regular basis if you’re committed to better health.
One is diet, this includes detoxification. Diet must be matched to your genetic makeup in order to supply you with the necessary building blocks to maintain good health. When we’re talking about breast cancer we want to look at basic issues that can adversely affect the breast. One of those is a bra that is not fitted properly and is too tight studies have shown this can lead to more breast disease, also bra with wire support have been suspected as well. The breast, due to granular activity have a lot of turnover and so lymph drainage is important which is enhanced by exercise, particularly arm exercises and plenty of fluids.
Fluid needs are based on body weight, one half of your body weight in ounces is considered a cleansing dose of fluids 80% of that is considered the minimum dose. For a 100 pound person that would be 50 ounces as cleansing and 40 as minimum. Estrogen balance is crucial because a high estrogen to progesterone ratio can promote breast cancer and other breast disease. A high-fiber diet can help control estrogen by improving the elimination of estrogen after it has been conjugated by the liver and dumped out through the bile into the colon. If you're constipated and thus have a longer than normal route time for things to move to the colon then the bacteria in the colon will release the estrogen back into the system causing an excess estrogen affect. Flax powder and soy products have a modulating effect on estrogen. Soy has gotten a bad name due to these substances within soy that have an estrogen or hormonal effect on a cell. But this effect is said to be 40 to 50% less potent than estrogen produced by the body. So it has a buffering effect on the cells and thus a protective effect. Again these substances are found in both soy and flax powder.
When we talk about cancer it's important to understand that cancer develops in a Pro inflammatory chemistry. One way to reduce inflammation is to eat a diet based on your body type. In most of the recommendations in this publication when it comes to food recommendations it should be modified based on your body type. For instance if you have a protein body type then being a vegetarian to try to fight the cancer could be counterproductive.

And to understand body pH then evaluating urine pH will give insight on if your system is too acidic (Pro inflammatory) are two alkaline (Pro degeneration) and by requesting a food pH list you can modify your body's pH. Because Pro inflammatory and an acid pH go together, then drinking alkaline water can be helpful. Putting lemon or lime in your water, even though the juices acid to the tongue, once it goes through the digestive process it has a strong alkaline effect on the body. Two lemons or three small limes per quart of water is a good pH balancing drink if your system is too acidic. Urine pH should be 6.4.

Cutting back on alcohol. Even a moderate amount of alcohol is "clearly linked" to an increased risk of breast cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. Compared with non-drinkers, women who have two to five drinks a day are at least 50 percent likelier to develop the disease. If you have to drink, stick to a glass of wine (5 ounces), a shot of liquor (1.5 ounces) or a bottle of beer (12 ounces) a day.
Cabbage and sauerkraut. Researchers at Michigan State University found that people who ate raw or lightly cooked cabbage and sauerkraut at least three times a week were 72 percent less likely to develop breast cancer than those who had it twice or less. High levels of glucosinolates – compounds found in cabbage – may be responsible.

Along with apricots, peppers and pumpkins, they provide cancer carotenoids like beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A, when required by the body. 1 cup of carrot juice, 2 sweet potatoes, 16 dried apricots and 4 cups of red cherries will each provide 25mgs. Don´t eat them all at once - people have been known to turn a little orange! A great juice to make yourself involves carrots and apples (for quercitin) and beetroot (for anthocyanins). A real cancer fighting drink! Carotenoids are also found in natural food sources such as chlorella.
3: Red and Yellow Peppers
The top source of vitamin C in the UK - even better than oranges. Vitamin C strengthens your immune cells and neutralises toxins. Linus Pauling thought cancer patients should consume 2 to 10 gms per day. A large red pepper is 250 mgs. 200 gms raw broccoli 175 mgs. 150 gms papaya 90 mgs. An orange 65 mgs. Berries and cherries are great sources. Red and yellow peppers are also good sources of carotenoids.
4: Sunflower Seeds
High in zinc and vitamin E. Zinc helps vitamin C do its work and accelerates healing time. It is important to a healthy prostate. You need 15 to 25 mgs per day. Five tablespoons of sunflower seeds give you 10 mgs. Best are oysters, 3 are enough. Milk can block zinc absorption. Sunflower seeds will also provide a little selenium.
Can be mixed with the sunflower seeds in your morning muesli. 5 tablespoons will each provide 20 mgs of vitamin E, the ultimate cancer buster, which inhibits cancer cell growth and protects immune cells from free radicals. Vitamin E boosts your immune system´s fighting abilities. The target is 300-600 mgs and is difficult to achieve without supplements. Green vegetables, soya and almonds are also good sources.
5: Brazil Nuts
Six cracked nuts will give you your daily selenium; 100 to 200 mcgs is the goal. Selenium is a very potent anti-cancer agent. Eight slices of wholemeal bread, an organic egg, or a large chicken breast will also be enough.
Tuna, onions, broccoli and tomatoes contain selenium too.

Seven to ten helpings per week, especially cooked.
According to Harvard research 7-10 helpings a week cuts prostate symptoms by 40% and has an influence on many cancers e.g.: lung; colon; cervix; breast. Lycopene is the prime active ingredient, and 25 - 40 mgs the desired daily dose.
It is also found in strawberries, peppers, carrots and peaches, but one tin of tomato soup has 65 mgs alone. Lycopene helps reduce ´bad´ fat levels in the blood stream and is a strong antioxidant.
8: Egg Yolk
Along with green leafy vegetables, avocado, beans, carrots, apricots and pumpkins, egg yolk will give you folic acid.
This will help your DNA to replicate properly and protect it during radiotherapy.
400 micrograms is a recommended amount. Folate, biotin, niacin and vitamin B6 are all B vitamins that help in the cancer fight. Egg yolk, greens and whole grains are the best sources.
And other green cruciferous vegetables e.g. cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts, contain fibre which helps eliminate toxins
Moreover, the fibre is rich in galactose, which binds to damaging agents in the intestine.
Cruciferous vegetables also contain indoles, and especially indole3carbinol which, along with its metabolite DIM, modifies and diminishes aggressive oestrogen action, can modify cellular oestrogen receptor sites, and aids in fighting oestrogen-driven cancers like some breast, prostate, brain and colorectal cancers.
I3C and DIM were also found to have action in non-oestrogen driven cancers as they can also affect thep27 cancer pathway.
Finally, sulphorophane in broccoli and especially sprouting broccoli seeds helps the liver detoxify, and reduces stomach cancer tumours.
It is a truly wonderful food. It seems to act to stop the spread of cancer in a number of ways, for example by stopping blood supply forming for tumours.
Garlic has a number of active ingredients. It contains selenium, tryptophan and sulpher based active agents that attack cancer cells.
Two or three raw cloves of garlic per day will ward off more than vampires.
And cherries, aubergines, red grapes - indeed any purple coloured fruits and vegeatables. They contain anthocyanins (and sometimes also resveratrol). Anthocyanins have been shown to kill cancer cells; resveratrrol has research supporting its role in fighting certain cancers like blood and brain cancers too.
Lentils, chickpeas, beans and even soya etc. are a great source of fibre and protein without the animal fat.
Pulses also contain isoflavones, phytoestrogens. People get confused about plant oestrogen. The cells of your body have oestrogen receptor sites. When one form of human oestrogen (oestradiol) binds to them, the result is havoc inside your cells. About 40 times less potent is human oestrogen oestrone and about 40 to 50 times less potent still are plant oestrogens. Now which would you rather have sitting on your receptors? Pulses also provide fibres like lignans that can help neutralise free-radicals in the gut and blood stream.
