I am sure you have noticed with people close to you or maybe even about yourself that there might be a different response to pain depending on your state before you became hurt. For instance if you're tired and stub your toe you might react differently than when you're not tired. Our ability to handle pain depends on how well we're handling stress overall.
Some people seem to live their lives in a high level of stress all the time (a sign of ill health), while others working in the same environment seem to handle things just fine. Not only does our level of health and stress management affect how we respond to pain but in some circumstances it can keep us from situations that cause pain. For instance, I discussed earlier about stubbing one's toe. When we get tired and/or under a lot of stress, this will affect our coordination and awareness, which could make us clumsier. I'm sure you have all noticed when you're under a lot of stress or dealing with a lot of things, your ability to handle things is compromised. Studies have indicated that just talking on a cell phone can make your driving skills like someone intoxicated.
Have you ever noticed when you're stressed about something that you're not always the most pleasant person to be around? Things can be going on that are subtler, that can affect your attitude, things below the surface your not aware of.
A lot of times the person that has a bad attitude, it is due to the fact that they're in poor health. The problem with poor health is that most people are not aware that's where they are. You can have health problems and yet no pain or distracting symptoms. Most people who are in poor health would not admit to it, if they were asked. Not because they feel they need to lie about it, they just don't realize where they are. Most of us lose our health so slowly that we ignore all the warning signs. But we end up one day not sleeping well, with digestive problems, using stimulants like caffeine to keep our energy level up. Our bodies are in an ever increasing level of stress and were not realizing what's happening.
We are short with people, particularly our own families, we get home and crash on the couch thinking we enjoy watching TV. The truth is, if we had the energy, we would be doing constructive things that we enjoy. Many of us don't realize that we're in a slow state of decay year's before our time.
As we struggle to function day by day we don't always put our best foot forward. We're surprised when people say we're gruff or unfriendly because that's not how we see ourselves. That's not who we want to be. We must realize that emotions are "energy in motion". The higher emotions like joy or happiness require more energy then depression, anger or sadness. So you end up having to think a lot more about how you come across to others, and if you're busy or distracted, you end up coming across in a negative way without even realizing it.
If you find yourself screaming at others or you're told that's how you come across, this could be a sign of poor health. If you find yourself in a cycle of sleeping, working, eating, vegging, and then sleeping, you could be in a state of ill health.
Think about this, if heart problems or cancer or any other chronic disease would have more warning signs years before, there wouldn't be as many people dying from these diseases. The facts are, most health problems gradually develop with only minor symptoms like fatigue, stress, aches and pains etc. A lot of times when our body is in trouble it only whispers. Sometimes as it whispers, you scream. By this, I mean, you come across maybe in some strong emotional way that later when you reflect on it, or are told about it, you feel regret.
If, after reading this, you identify yourself, a family member or maybe a friend, tell them about Keefe Clinic. We know how to listen to the body's whispers... or screams.
Even though there can be many causes for poor health. The stress on the Central Nervous System from misalignments is a major cause. Diet, exercise and other lifestyle factors are what we specialize in. Don't put up with fatigue, sleep problems, digestive disorders, aches and pains etc. This is your body telling you something is wrong. Are you listening? We are.
