Although the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has the authority to regulate harmful ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products, they don't often exercise it… The average US woman uses 12 personal care products a day, containing 168 different chemicals. While most men use fewer products, they’re still exposed to about 85 such chemicals daily. Women with higher levels of personal-care chemicals in their bodies experienced menopause two to four years earlier than women with lower levels. WELLNESS: For Lower Blood Pressure, Eat More of These If you want to protect your teens from high blood pressure as adults, ease off on salt restrictions and make sure they're getting enough potassium in their diets. The study, which was published in JAMA Pediatrics, found no evidence that higher intakes of salt had a negative effect on adolescent blood pressure. But girls who had high levels of potassium had lower blood pressure throughout adolescence than girls who were deficient in the mineral. Experts suggest an intake of 4,700 milligrams of potassium daily. Citrus fruits, bananas, potatoes, kale, and fish are rich sources of potassium.

It is said that we get sick one cell at a time and we get well one cell at a time. If we’re talking about chiropractic adjustments, the purpose is to establish normal nervous system function. Since your nervous system controls and coordinates every part and system of the body you can see why reducing the stress on the nervous system is so important. The body knows exactly what to do to maintain proper function (health), just sometimes it can’t express that information because of stress on key nerves. Be it acid reflux, allergies, headaches, back pain or hormonal imbalances the body knows how to correct these. But when the communication channels of the body get compromised by misalignments, the body is not able to maintain normal function and thus disease is the result. It can take months and maybe years before that disease becomes manifest through symptoms. And so when you start care you might think because the symptoms just started last week or last month that it’s a young condition. The truth is this condition could’ve taken years to first become symptomatic. Yes the symptoms started last week or last month but the condition started years before.

As we begin to correct the problem at the spine then cells that have been functioning improperly take time to heal and reestablish normal function. Luckily symptoms can disappear fairly quickly in most cases and this can be confusing to patients because when the pain is gone or the symptom has left, they can think that they are well again. This can cause them to mistakenly end care too soon. And thus the condition will continue to develop underground until you have breakthrough symptoms eventually, which could be somewhat different than the symptoms you had before.

A similar scenario happens when we are doing nutritional therapy. Nutrients due to faulty diet, stress and other factors can become imbalanced or deficient over time. This will cause cells to start to malfunction and when enough cells are malfunctioning then the organ will start to malfunction. Again symptoms will be the last to appear and usually represent something that’s taken months if not years to develop. As we determine what nutrients are necessary to restore normal function it can take time for the body to do the healing. Again when the symptoms leave it doesn’t mean the process is completed.

There are a series of steps that tend to take place in all healing. The body will need to detox poisons that have developed due to faulty diet and systems that are not functioning properly and thus not detoxing properly. And then nutrient levels have to be reestablished and rebalanced in order for cells to start functioning properly. And as enough cells start to function as they should then the organ will start to function better. The body will start replacing weak and sick cells with stronger or more healthy cells. And so you literally get healthier one cell at a time. IN THE NEWS: Most countries woefully unprepared to fight resistant superbugs, says WHO Only 34 countries have national plans to fight the global threat of antibiotic resistance, meaning few are prepared to tackle "superbug" infections which put even basic healthcare at risk, the WHO said on Wednesday. In a survey of government plans to tackle the issue, the World Health Organization said only a quarter of the 133 countries that responded were addressing the problem. NOTE: because the medical profession could not control the use of antibiotics by their doctors they have developed a large population of bacteria that have learned a resistance against pharmaceutical antibiotics. WELLNESS: Acetaminophen, A Poor Choice for Relieving Your Low Back Pain Acetaminophen is the most popular pain reliever in the U.S., accounting for an estimated 27 billion annual doses as of 2009. With 100,000-plus hospital visits a year by users, it's also the most likely to be taken inappropriately. In fact, improper use, coupled with the drug's narrow safety margin, means "a large fraction of users [are] close to a toxic dose in the ordinary course of use," according to the Food and Drug Administration. But for the sake of discussion, let's ignore the safety issues for a moment. Is acetaminophen an effective pain reliever in the first place? Unlike using antibiotics or steroids to suppress a skin condition we look for the underlying cause and work at correcting that. IN THE NEWS: HOW DO PEOPLE SPREAD STRESS TO EACH OTHER? Working with people who are stressed has both physiological and emotional effects. Perspiration produced under emotional strain releases alarm pheromones, or airborne chemical signals. When inhaled by others, these substances activate the amygdala, the region of the brain linked to emotional arousal, according to a 2009 study in PLOS One. Researchers in the study compared 32 subjects’ reactions to sweat collected from people doing their first sky-dive, including a one-minute free fall, with the response to sweat from people running on a treadmill without any emotional strain. Both types of sweat were kept free of bacteria that cause a bad odor, and both smelled the same, but the exercise sweat didn’t cause the same response, the study showed. Another study, published in 2011 by researchers at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, found that inhaling substances from sweat produced under stress causes people to focus more closely on details in others’ facial expressions that might signal a threat.

IN THE NEWS: DRINKING SODA AGES YOUR IMMUNE CELLS SIMILAR TO THAT OF A DAILY SMOKING HABIT Research published in the American Journal of Public Health claims that drinking soda on a daily basis ages your immune cells to a degree similar to that of a daily smoking habit. To reach this conclusion, the researchers studied the effect of sugary sodas on human telomeres. At the very tip of each arm of the chromosome is where you'll find the telomere. Your telomeres shorten with time because they cannot replicate completely each time the cell divides. Hence, as you get older, your telomeres get shorter and shorter.They found that people who drank more sugary soda tended to have shorter telomeres. Drinking an 8-ounce daily serving of soda corresponded to 1.9 years of additional aging, and drinking a daily 20-ounce serving was linked to 4.6 more years of aging.

CONDITION OF THE WEEK:RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS this is the season for sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, flu, colds and chronic cough. Probably the most common reason is the lower humidity due to the cold air and the action of heaters that dry the air out. Dry air sucks the moisture out of your body. As the moisture leaves, the body mobilizes the oil soluble vitamins particularly vitamin A to compensate. Vitamin A supplies moisture and health to the mucous membranes of your sinuses, bronchial tubes and lungs. As a vitamin A level diminishes along with the vitamin D, your immune system becomes compromised and the above health problems develop. DIET: STUDY: MIDNIGHT SNACKS COULD HURT YOUR MEMORY UCLA researchers say they're seeing—at least in mice—a decline in memory when food is consumed during typical sleep hours. "Those animals that were misaligned show severe deficits in their recall of the training that they received," Researchers also found that the strength of neural connections suffered among the population with a misaligned eating schedule, meaning they not only recalled less quickly but learned less quickly, too.

IN THE NEWS: EVEN WITHOUT CONCUSSION, HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYERS EXHIBIT BRAIN CHANGES, STUDY SAYS High school football players can undergo significant brain changes after only a single season— even if they don’t get a concussion, Wake Forest University researchers have found. Scientists said the ongoing study of 24 students, ages 16 to 18, from a Winston-Salem, N.C. high school, is the largest and most comprehensive research of its kind. Whitlow said the heaviest hitters exhibited the most brain changes, while the light hitters had fewer brain changes at the end of the season. “The important thing to note is although we’re seeing these changes, none of these players are experiencing any common symptoms of concussion,” Whitlow said.

IN THE NEWS:The Link Between Obesity and Cancer Obesity is a frequently overlooked factor that can contribute to an increased cancer risk. Less than 10 percent of Americans are aware of this link. The obesity epidemic is directly related to excessive sugar consumption, and this is also a major driving factor for the cancer epidemic. Obesity has been linked to an increased risk for about a dozen different cancers, including cancer of the colon, esophagus, kidney, breast, and pancreas, as well as a heightened risk of dying from the disease. Unless you are vigorously exercising, your body can only use about six teaspoons of sugar per day. Excess sugar is then stored as body fat, and leads to the chronic metabolic diseases we struggle with, including cancer. Once you’ve addressed your basic food choices, and cut your sugar/fructose consumption down to 25 grams/day or less, you can further boost fat loss by incorporating the principles of intermittent fasting.

WELLNESS: Study Warns That Losing Your Sense of Smell May Mean You May Not Live Much Longer People with an inability to smell (known as anosmia) were more than four times as likely to die in five years compared to those with a healthy sense of smell. Specifically, 39 percent of the participants who failed a smell test died in the next five years, compared to 19 percent of those who had moderate smell loss and 10 percent of those with a healthy sense of smell. Loss of sense of smell was a stronger predictor of death than even a diagnosis of cancer, heart failure, or lung disease. Loss of olfactory function may “serve as a bellwether for slowed cellular regeneration or as a marker of cumulative toxic environmental exposure”. People who exercise are less likely to lose their sense of smell with age than those who do not. Look to zinc if you lose the ability to smell.

  • eliminating all simple carbohydrates, gluten and processed food from her diet, and eating more vegetables, fruits and non-farmed fish
  • meditating twice a day and beginning yoga to reduce stress

3. Stop smoking

Reason number 1,001: Nicotine is a stimulant, so it prevents you from falling asleep. Plus, many smokers experience withdrawal pangs at night. Smokers are four times more likely not to feel as well rested after a night's sleep than nonsmokers, studies show, and smoking exacerbates sleep apnea and other breathing disorders, which can also stop you from getting a good night's rest. To quiet that wakeful worrying, every night jot down your top concerns—say, I have to call my insurer to dispute that denied claim, which will take forever, and how can I spend all that time on the phone when work is so busy? Then write down the steps you can take to solve the problem—I'm going to look up the numbers before breakfast, refuse to stay on hold for more than three minutes, and send e-mails tomorrow night if I can't get through—or even I can't do anything about this tonight, so I'll worry about it tomorrow. Once your concerns are converted into some kind of action plan, you'll rest easier.

"Sleep is not an on-off switch," said Breus. "It's more like slowly easing your foot off the gas." Give your body time to transition from your active day to bedtime drowsiness by setting a timer for an hour before bed and divvying up the time as follows:

First 20 minutes: Prep for tomorrow (pack your bag, set out your clothes).

Next 20: Take care of personal hygiene (brush your teeth, moisturize your face).

Experts usually recommend setting your bedroom thermostat between 65 degrees and 75 degrees—a good guideline, but pay attention to how you actually feel under the covers. Slipping between cool sheets helps trigger a drop in your body temperature. That shift signals the body to produce melatonin, which induces sleep. That's why it's also a good idea to take a warm bath or hot shower before going to bed: Both temporarily raise your body temperature, after which it gradually lowers in the cooler air, cueing your body to feel sleepy. But for optimal rest, once you've settled in to bed, you shouldn't feel cold or hot—but just right.

Ask your spouse to check the alignment of your head and neck when you're in your starting sleep position. If your neck is flexed back or raised, get a pillow that lets you sleep in a better-aligned position. And if you're a stomach sleeper, consider using either no pillow or a very flat one to help keep your neck and spine straight.

19. Breathe deeply

This technique helps reduce your heart rate and blood pressure, releases endorphins, and relaxes your body, priming you for sleep. Inhale for five seconds, pause for three, then exhale to a count of five. Start with eight repetitions; gradually increase to 15. To see if you're doing it right, Breus said to buy a bottle of children's bubbles, breathe in through your belly, and blow through the wand. The smooth and steady breath that you use to blow a bubble successfully should be what you strive for when you're trying to get to sleep.

If they're not fretting or anxious, I tell them to stay there, in the dark, and do some deep breathing or visualization." IN THE NEWS: ARMED RAIDS AGAINST AMISH RAW-MILK FARMERS?One of the most glaring cases involves Wisconsin dairy farmer Vernon Hershberger, who was charged with four criminal misdemeanors for supplying a private buying club with raw milk and other fresh produce grown on his farm. State prosecutors tried to convict Hershberger for operating a retail food establishment, a dairy farm and a dairy plant without a license. However, since he only supplies food to paid members in a private buying club, he maintained that he was not subject to state food regulations. The trial has become a symbol for the war being waged against raw milk in the US, where aggressive regulators are attacking small farmers producing wholesome raw food products for loyal customers. Fortunately, the trial ended mostly favorably for Hershberger, but not before his peaceful farm was raided using military-style tactics (at one point he was subjected to three raids in a three-month period!). CDC data show there are about 412 confirmed cases of people getting ill from pasteurized milk each year, while only about 116 illnesses a year are linked to raw milk. Even as the CDC continues to report on raw milk dangers, the state of Arkansas has announced that no illnesses have been caused as a result of a recent increase in raw milk sales.

CONDITION OF THE WEEK: SLEEP AND CHIROPRACTIC Last year, an international team of chiropractic researchers reported the case of a 3-year-old boy with disturbed sleep. He would snore loudly and have frequent episodes of breath-holding during the night. He would also wake up suddenly many times each night. The examining doctor of chiropractic found evidence of misalignment and restriction (subluxation) in the upper cervical (upper neck), mid-thoracic (between the shoulder blades), and lumbar (low back) portions of the spine. IN THE NEWS: LACK OF SLEEP TIED TO MORE HEALTH RISKS FOR OBESE ADOLESCENTS For overweight and obese adolescents, a lack of sleep may be linked to a higher risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and stroke, Counsel and Heal reported. In a new study published in The Journal of Pediatrics, researchers found that only one-third of participants were physically active for at least one hour a day. Furthermore, most teens only slept for approximately seven hours each night. The National Sleep Foundation recommends children between ages 10 to 17 should sleep for a totally of 8.5 to 9.5 hours per night.  While obese or overweight teens already had a high risk of developing cardiometabolic diseases, researchers found that a lack of sleep elevated this risk even further.

As we discuss inflammatory and anti-inflammatory foods we must understand the difference in body types. There were four body types that require slightly different blends of carbohydrates fat, and proteins. These can be divided into two basic groups one the high complex carbohydrate low-fat and the other being high-protein low carbohydrate. If you’re in a high complex carbohydrate low-fat group then foods like eggs, butter, salt, redmeat and some spices could be a problem. If you’re in the high protein low carb group than refined carbohydrates sugars grains could be a problem. So it’s important to know what body type you have as you review the following list of anti-inflammatory foods. Also any food that you’re allergic to can be pro-inflammatory even on the list of anti-inflammatory foods. For instance the nightshade family can be pro-inflammatory if you’re allergic to them. They include: potatoes (Solanum tuberosum), tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum), many species of sweet and hot peppers (all species of Capsicum, including Capsicum annum), and eggplant (Solanum melongena). Less well know, but equally genuine nightshade foods include ground cherries (all species of Physalis), tomatillos (Physallis ixocapra), garden huckleberry (Solanum melanocerasum), tamarillos (Cyphomandra betacea), pepinos (Solanum muricatum), and naranjillas (Solanum quitoense). Pimentos (also called pimientos) belong to the nightshade family, and usually come from the pepper plant Capsicum annum. Pimento cheese and pimento-stuffed olives are therefore examples of foods that should be classified as containing nightshade components. Although the sweet potato, whose scientific name is Ipomoea batatas, belongs to the same plant order as the nightshades (Polemoniales), it does not belong to the Solanaceae family found in this order, but to a different plant family called Convolvulaceae.

If I ask most people on the street what was the main contributor to heart disease then cholesterol would be the first thing out of most people's mouth. If I ask you the number one way of maintaining healthy bones most people would say consuming more calcium. My question to you is: did you arrive at these conclusions by your own in-depth study of the research and science or have you opened up a medical textbook to determine how these conditions develop and exactly what these conditions are?  Let me give you some facts: one of the largest studies, I'm talking real-life studies not theoretical studies, was a Harvard study of 78,000 nurses. The facts are the nurses that consume the most calcium had the most bone fractures. Asian women living in their own culture eating their own cultural diet get one third the calcium that American women get and osteoporosis is extremely rare in their society. When they move to the US and incorporate the US diet they become the top risk group for osteoporosis.

The next fact is the cholesterol theory of heart disease first gained its acceptance in the 1950s. Medical nutritionist Dr. Keyes supposedly correlated the level of fat intake with heart disease in six countries and even though his theory was rejected at the time he used political maneuvering by becoming part of the Heart Association and finally got his theory accepted. When you look at his original research you will  see a study of 23 countries trying to make this correlation and he had to eliminate 16 of these countries in order to make his theory look correct statistically. When you add back the 16 countries he conveniently eliminated the correlation just doesn't stand up. And between the 1950s and about 1976 there are six different major studies trying to correlate fat in the diet with heart disease and they have all failed. In fact every major study from 1969 through the present has failed to support the cholesterol theory.

One of the longest continual studies is ongoing today started in 1948 in Framingham Massachusetts. This study involves 5000 residents and has shown some amazing contradictions to the cholesterol theory of heart disease. In fact this study has shown after the age 47 the patients with the highest cholesterol outlive the patients with lower cholesterol levels. This study also shows those who ate more saturated fat weighed less and had more energy than those on the low-fat diet.

In April 1996 the second International symposium on dietary fats and oils consumption in health and disease was hosted by the Southwest University medical school in Dallas Texas. Researchers from around the world presented their findings on the effects of fat in the human diet. After the presentations showing the subjects following the low-fat diet hadn't got rid of their obesity, and not lowered their cholesterol levels, had lowered their HDL levels (the good cholesterol), and had increase their blood levels of triglycerides (a major risk factor for heart disease), the moderators of the symposium pronounce the low-fat diet a failure.

 The strongest evidence points to inflammation as the soil in which obesity, diabetes, and heart disease develop from. So strategies to reduce inflammation will lead to the best chance of better health. This is where diet and lifestyle are very important. There are several factors that lead to inflammation in the body which include: junk food (highly refined carbohydrates), hydrogenated oils that include trans fats, elevation in bad prostaglandins and hormones like insulin which are produced by the overabundance of refined vegetable oils and refined carbohydrates and sugar, and the reduced amount of helpful antioxidants and pH balancing foods and beverages that reduce the excess acidity of the body.

So as we look to diet and lifestyle (because even too much aerobic exercise without appropriate amounts of antioxidants in the diet can also lead to inflammation) then selecting the proper diet is crucial. Unfortunately there is no one diet that fits everybody and so you need to match the right ratio of fats, carbohydrates and proteins that fit your genetic makeup.

The body typing system that I use consists of four different body types: thyroid, gonadal, adrenal and pituitary. These four types tend to correspond the four personality types: Sanguine (This type is characterized by spontaneity, optimism, enthusiasm, high energy, mental flexibility, novelty seeking, impulsiveness and curiosity)., Phlegmatic (These people are mainly defined by their social skills, such as their ability to express themselves and read other people face expressions and body language. They do well at connecting facts and seeing “the big picture”. They are nurturing, sympathetic, agreeable and emotionally expressive). Choleric (This type is associated with testosterone, which is also present in men and women, but more so in men. These people are direct, focused, tough, analytical, logical and strategic. They have a great deal of courage and like to compete, often against each other. They often have square jaws, high cheekbones and high foreheads and love to use words like “intellect”, “ambition” and “challenge”) and Melancholic (tend to be calm, loyal and orderly, just as their personality name sounds. They are cautious and conventional. These men and women inherited genes in the serotonin system and their favorite words are “family”, “loyal”, “respect”, “caring”, “values” and “moral”). Most people are unique blend of four different types of personality, where all of the traits are present to some extent.

These four body types can be divided into two groups. We can call one group the protein group (about 70% of US) and the other the complex carbohydrate group (30%) the protein group tends to be sensitive to carbohydrates particularly refined sugars and grains. The carbohydrate group tends to be sensitive to fats (eggs, butter and red meat), salt and spices.  So a diet too high in sugars and grain can lead to inflammation in the protein type. A diet high in fats and oils can lead to inflammation in the carbohydrate type.

In the area diet this includes eating your body type diet but also consuming enough water for your body weight. In order to determine how much water you need to drink you divide your weight in half and consider that answer in ounces. For instance a hundred pound person their cleansing dose of fluids would be 50 ounces 80% of that would give you the minimum fluids they should drink which is 40 ounces. Dehydration can cause a whole host of conditions and cause any condition your suffering with to be a little worse. Since the EPA recommends boiling city water before drinking we encourage our patients to drink filtered water. Also when it comes to water you can get water in different pH ranges. If you're dealing with an inflammatory chemistry your body is going to be acidic. And so alkaline water can be very effective in the overall management of your body chemistry.

As we consider water we also consider detoxification because we live in a toxic environment. And so most patients need to undergo some level of detoxification in order to remove important stressors in their ability to maintain normal function and better health. So drinking your cleansing dose of fluids can be helpful in detoxification. And when it comes to how much alkaline water we recommend you should drink about a liter a day. DIET: HOW LEPTIN RESISTANCE CAUSES OBESITY In order for you to significantly gain weight, you must first become leptin resistant. Leptin is a hormone that helps you regulate your appetite. When your leptin levels rise, it signals your body that you’re full, so you’ll stop eating. However, as you become increasingly resistant to the effects of leptin, you end up eating more. Many people who are overweight also have an impairment in their body’s ability to oxidize fat, which leads to a low-energy state. The question then is: what drives this basic process? Why do you become leptin resistant in the first place? Research clearly shows that refined sugar (in particular fructose) is exceptionally effective at causing leptin resistance in animals, and it’s very effective at blocking the burning of fat. When you give fructose to animals, they lose their ability to control their appetite, they eat more, and they exercise less. Fructose looks like it’s playing a direct role in weight gain.

The sad fact is that pharmaceutical companies have taken over the healthcare system and if you're not an informed consumer then you will line the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies and damage your kid's own health. One of the most important things you can do is make sure your kids drink enough clean water and stay away from pops, fruit juices and fake fruit drinks and fructose that come from highly refined corn syrup. Stevia is a great sugar substitute and can be used in a number of things to give it a sweet taste without disrupting your kids’ blood sugar handling system. Marked deviations in normal blood sugar levels will weaken the immune system and affect your kid's moods. SIX DAY CLEANSING DIET

 

This is your six-day special food program. For best results it must be followed exactly as written.

When an automobile is full of carbon, it has no pep.  It is clogged up.  You may put in the very best gas and oil, but the speed is not there.  The sensible and logical thing to do is to take the car to a mechanic and have the carbon cleaned out.  After that is done, what happens?  The car seems like new. There is plenty of power.

Your body is comparable to the car.  When the cells, of which you have many millions, are clogged up with ACID—SUGAR—MUCUS—PUS—etc-, you have no pep, your appetite is poor, you do not sleep well, your complexion is-bad, your eyes are dull, you suffer from aches and pains you are nervous and irritable, you feel indifferent—everything seems wrong.  Life is not so much fun as it once was; in fact, you are really ill.

The sensible and logical thing to do is to CLEAN OUT, not just your bowels, but also the cells.  Purge these cells—get all this accumulated toxic material out.  But how?

Well, that’s easy.  OBSERVE THIS SPECIAL FOOD PROGRAM.  It does it every time!  For six short days you will be on a FEAST—not a fast.  You will be filling your body with Nature’s life-giving foods—fruits and vegetables that contain all those precious vitamins and minerals.  When a sufficient amount of these live substances reaches the cells of your body, there will be a flushing and a cleansing such as you have never experienced before.  You will eliminate toxic material that has been with you for years—toxic material that has robbed you of your vitality.  When this gets all out, you will be like the car that has been cleaned of the carbon.  You will have plenty of energy—your complexion will undergo a marvelous transformation—you will feel like a baby—aches and pains will disappear -­your nerves will be at ease and you will feel so good that life will be a joy.

That is what this SPECIAL 6-DAY PROGRAM will do.  Follow directions carefully. When you start this program—STICK TO IT! Don’t try it 1 day and then quit! After this program, you are to ALWAYS have some fresh raw fruit or vegetables with every meal!

BREAKFAST FOR EACH OF THE SIX DAYS

15 minutes before you are ready to eat breakfast, squeeze the JUICE of a lemon in a medium glass of hot water and drink it.

Orange or Grapefruit Juice ……………………   8 ounces. You can take more if you desire, but be sure that you take 8 ounces at least.

Cottage            Cottage Cheese ……………………………………..  5 level tablespoonful. No more or no less.

Fresh Fruit……………………………………….        One-half pound.  You may eat more, but be sure to eat at least,

(No bananas or avocados)                                             1 pound. - You can eat only 1 kind of fruit, or you may mix.

 

Coffee or Tea ………………………………….                 No coffee may be used.  Herb tea 1 cup if desired.

Between breakfast and lunch you should- drink all the FRUIT and VEGETABLE juice you can hold.  Also, eat fresh raw vegetables and fruit.  The more live food, you consume, the more thorough will be the cleansing.  If you can’t get the fresh juices, us the canned variety. Make up a lot of VEGETABLE BROTH (see recipe on back).  Drink lots of this broth, as it is full of minerals.  V-8 juice or vegetable juice from health food store can be substituted.

LUNCH FOR EACH OF THE SIX DAYS –

Vegetable Broth …………………………..  Drink two cups during the meal.

 

Salad                                                                                    Make a chopped salad of fresh raw vegetables.  Use a dressing of olive oil, lemon juice and salt.  Eat at least 8 LEVEL TABLESPOONSFUL, more if you desire.  Use four of the vegetables listed below: Artichokes, Asparagus, Beans, Beets, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Carrots, Cauliflower, Cucumbers, Celery, Dandelions, Endive, Egg Plant, Fresh Green Corn, Fresh Green Peas, Green Peppers, Kale, Kohlrabi, Lettuce, Lotus, Okra, Onions, Parsley, Parsnips, Pumpkin, Radishes, Rutabagas, Salsify, Spinach, Squash, Swiss Chard, Tomatoes,

Turnips. (You may use the leaves or tops also.)

 

Dessert                                                     Fresh fruit with a little pure honey.

Coffee or Tea ………………………….                  Not at this meal.

 

Between lunch and dinner, drink all the fruit and vegetable juice you desire.  Eat all the fresh fruit and vegetables you want.  Fill up!  It's medicine for you.  REMEMBER: The purge comes from the vitamins and minerals in the food, so be sure to eat plenty.

DINNER FOR EACH OF THE SIX DAYS

Vegetable Broth ……Drink TWO CUPS during the meal, more if you desire.

Cooked Vegetables …………..                                  Select two or three of the different kinds listed above and cook them with butter.  Eat a generous helping of each. (No potatoes.)

Bread …………                                                       One medium slice WHOLE WHEAT bread with butter.

Dessert ………. Baked apple with cream or a salad of fresh fruits.  A little honey OK.

Coffee or Tea                                                        NOT at this meal.  And ... if you still feel hungry after dinner, eat fresh fruits and drink, fruit or vegetable juice ... ALL YOU WANT!

RECIPE FOR VEGETABLE BROTH

Take 7 carrots and 1 small bunch of celery and cut fine.  Place in 2 quarts hot water and boil for 15 minutes.  Add 1/3 bunch of parsley and a large handful of fresh spinach, cut fine.  Boil 10 minutes more.  Drain off the juice or broth.  Flavor with salt, onion, okra, tomatoes, green peppers or garlic. (You may save the vegetables and use for your cooked vegetables at dinner.)

The above recipe makes about 1 day's supply.  You can make more if desired, and keep in the refrigerator.  It can be used hot or cold.  The purpose of this broth is to FLUSH.  Drink lots of it during the six days.  It is full of minerals from the vegetables.  It is really a refreshing, soothing drink.  Enjoy!

 WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE PROGRAM

 The first day you may feel slight discomfort by having changed your regular mode of eating, but do not allow this to disturb you, for it is natural.  About the 3rd or 4th day, the bowels and kidneys will begin to move freely.  Much toxic material will be passed.  There may be a few minor symptoms as the result of this cleansing.  This is quite natural and is to be expected. - About the 5th day, you will feel a surge of energy.  You will be surprised at your­self.  Your complexion will have cleared up -- your eyes will begin to brighten -- you will feel wonderfully CLEAN inside.  The little cells that were so full of toxins are now clean, and they will begin to cry out for other food.  Continue on until the end of the 6th day; then combine your meals so they are balanced. -- Then keep up eating much fresh, raw vegetables and fruit, and you will be motivated by your better health!

IN THE NEWS:  FDA TO PHASE OUT SOME ANTIBIOTIC USE IN ANIMAL PRODUCTION U.S. regulators announced new guidelines that call on global pharmaceutical companies to phase out the use of some antibiotics meant to enhance growth in animals used for food, hoping to stem a growing tide of bacterial resistance to the same drugs when they are prescribed for humans. "Our fear ... is that there will be no reduction in antibiotic use as companies will either ignore the plan altogether or simply switch from using antibiotics for routine growth promotion to using the same antibiotics for routine disease prevention," said Steven Roach, senior analyst with advocacy group Keep Antibiotics Working.

 HEALTH ALERT: SUGAR PROMOTES HEART DISEASE AND CANCER More than 1,660,290 new cancer cases are projected to be diagnosed in the US this year, and an estimated 580,350 Americans will die from the disease. Another 600,000 Americans die of heart disease each year.At present, heart disease is the leading cause of death among both sexes. It’s become increasingly clear that many of the conventional strategies, from diagnosis to treatment, are riddled with flawed assumptions and approaches that, in many cases, do more harm than good. What’s worse, virtually none of the conventional strategies actually address the root cause of the problem, a flawed diet high in sugars and processed foods. Many favorite staples are also grain-based, such as bagels, pancakes, and breakfast cereals. All those grains are also quickly turned into sugar in your body, adding to your sugar burden.

 

CHIROPRACTIC:  Consumer Reports Lists Chiropractic Patients As Most Satisfied  About 80 percent of U.S. adults have at some point been bothered by back pain. The Consumer Reports Health Ratings Center recently surveyed more than 14,000 subscribers who had lower-back pain in the past year but had never had back surgery. More than half said pain severely limited their daily routine for a week or longer, and 88 percent said it recurred through the year. Many said the pain interfered with sleep, sex, and efforts to maintain a healthy weight. Back pain can be tough to treat. Most of our respondents tried five or six different treatments. They rated the helpfulness of the treatments tried and their satisfaction with the health-care professionals visited. Hands-on therapies were among the top-rated. Fifty-eight percent of those who tried chiropractic manipulation said it helped a lot, and 59 percent were "completely" or "very" satisfied with their chiropractor.

Most people understand that preventing disease makes a lot more sense than trying to recover from a chronic disease process.  We hear a lot about prevention but most of us feel overwhelmed and are doing very little to protect our health.  It's true there are a lot of voices sometimes telling as contradictory things to do to maintain our health.

A Healthy Nervous System

What does it mean to have a healthy nervous system?  Did you know your nervous system controls and coordinates everything in your body?  Did you know your stomach could not digest food properly if the nervous system was not regulating and controlling it?  Did you know that your heart would beat erratically  if the nervous system was not controlling and coordinates it.  Did you know without your nervous system's proper function you couldn't even sleep, breathe, move are have a normal existence?

We don't hear much about the importance of the nervous system, frankly because there's no pharmaceutical drug to make the nervous system function properly in each of these areas.

 Your ability to be aware of yourself and your environment, to be able to think or reason is dependent on a properly functioning nervous system.  Even to have a healthy sense of well-being depends on a cascade of chemical reactions that take place within a healthy nervous system.  In a sense, physically, you are your nervous system.  I don't mean that you're just physical; I mean that your ability to be self-aware is a function of your central nervous system.  So doesn’t it make sense that if you take care of your nervous system, then you take care of your health?  And did you know that the most common stress to your nervous system is misalignments of your neck and back?

Initial care for these misalignments is an intensive program of adjustments to obtain maximum balance to the spine.  But due to the limitations of matter and malformations due to genetic weaknesses, a perfect spine is not possible.  So after a corrective program we recommend some type of ongoing care.  Though each patient is responsible for determining how they're going to take care of their health we have recommendations that we encourage patients to consider.  One of those is our once a week wellness program.

Why once a week? 

After a corrective program the problems that are corrected tend to stay corrected unless you hurt that section again. The problems that are left in the spine are usually related to subtle malformations that don't allow certain joints to completely lock in place.   These joints are particularly sensitive to the normal stresses and strains that we put our bodies through on a 24-hour basis.  Coughing, sneezing, sitting postures or poor sleeping postures are just a few of the stresses that our bodies deal with everyday.  Add to that a lack of regular exercise, faulty diets and the effects on nerves and muscles of stress.  These factors can cause the loss of alignment and a buildup of stress (without pain)  on the nerves that are responsible for controlling our bodies.  The more often that you line up your spine the less stress that will be on your nervous system.  The more that your nervous system is free of stress the higher energy level that you'll experience.  Your resistance will be higher, in fact it has been shown that chiropractic patients who get regular chiropractic care have an immune system that functions 200% more effectively than the average person’s on the street.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POSTURE AND HEALTH Roger Sperry,Ph.D. (Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1981) discovered that 90% of the brain’s activity is used to balance your body within the gravitational field of earth. If your body is mechanically distorted, it will affect the other 10% of the brain’s activity, which controls all the other body functions such as breathing, digestion and cognition. If the body framework (bone structure and spine) is misaligned it can impede or block the electrical and chemical transmissions of the nervous system, which controls all of your body’s functions. This interference to the nervous system can cause or contribute to all kinds of symptoms and illnesses (in other words, the feeling that “I am hurting or I am sick”). Published research studies indicate that when body balance is restored, the body enters a healing cycle that alleviates pain and symptoms, elevates the immune system, increases blood and oxygen circulation, normalizes nervous system communication and creates more optimum body performance (“I feel good again”).
