IN THE NEWS: Beyond Hyperloop: Wild ideas for the future of transportation Monday evening Elon Musk finally unveiled his vision for a futuristic transportation system he calls Hyperloop; like a giant silver bullet shot from a gun at up to 800 miles per hour, it would transport people (and cars) across California faster than a bullet train -- and at a fraction of the cost. What of those jetpacks that everyone craves? Yes, Martin Aircraft Corp. has promised the things for years. The New Zealand developer said Tuesday that aviation authorities have issued the device a flying permit -- finally allowing for manned test flights. A space elevator would raise and lower people and cargo to a platform tethered in space by a sturdy length of nanoengineered cable. Scientists believe the platform -- essentially a satellite -- would remain stable, while robots would crawl up and down the length of the cable. If it ever works, a trip to space would require no more energy than that of the motor raising and lowering the platform.
WELLNESS:  Recent research shows that beet juice (also called beetroot juice) is one of the richest dietary sources of nitrates.  The body transforms nitrates into nitric oxide, a crucial compound that optimizes blood flow to the brain... heart... muscles... and more.  So while this root vegetable may not receive the press coverage devoted to perennial favorites like salmon and blueberries, emerging studies indicate it deserves a top spot on any list of super foods. "We are starting to unravel the intriguing health benefits of beet juice," said Gary Miller, Ph.D., a researcher at Wake Forest University.  The impact of dietary nitrates on blood flow and blood pressure is a primary factor spurring scientific interest in beet juice, Miller said.   A 2009 study indicated that beet juice's stamina boost is another result generated by its high nitrate content.  Nitrates reduce oxygen uptake, as a result, exercise is less tiring.  Study participants were able to exercise 16% longer after adding beetroot juice to their daily diet. While nitrates have drawn the bulk of the attention so far, beet juice is wonderful source of a variety of nutrients, including...  Folate Potassium Vitamin C Fiber Antioxidants

CHIROPRACTIC:  CHIROPRACTIC CARE AND DNA REPAIR.  Patient satisfaction has always driven chiropractic acceptance. Several surveys covering thousands of chiropractic participants have shown quantitative benefits to periodic long term care. They include reduced use of health care services (including hospitalizations and prescription drugs) and better sense of well-being even for seniors over 75 years of age. Geneticists in the area of ecogenetics have periodically looked at chiropractic since the late 1970s as a potential source of reducing what was called mutagen sensitivity back then. Thiol is one of the chemicals your body makes to repair damage to your DNA. A study of regular chiropractic patients in 2005 showed an increase in this DNA repair chemical compared to the general public. DNA damage leads to disease even cancer and early death.  This is one of the reasons we recommend wellness care. Chiropractic helps keep your DNA healthy.
