DIET: Omega-3s May Improve Healing After a Heart Attack Recent research suggests high doses (4 grams) of the omega-3 fats EPA and DHA may help improve healing after a heart attack. Another study found heart attack survivors who took 1 gram of animal-based omega-3 fat each day for three years had a 50 percent reduced chance of sudden cardiac death. It’s important to realize that omega-3 from marine animal and plant sources are NOT interchangeable. Plant-based ALA is a source of energy, while DHA and EPA are important structural elements of your cells.

IN THE NEWS: Kids and Concussions: A Parent Primer on Initial Assessment You're at your 10-year-old's soccer game and he's just collided with a member of the opposing team while fighting for a ball in the air. Unfortunately, the two hit heads and both leave the field crying, but clearly conscious. What to do? In many cases, both children will return to the game a few minutes later. Big mistake. Concussions are serious whenever and wherever they occur, but unlike professional sports, when children suffer a possible concussion, there's often no one around to evaluate it properly. Here's what you can do to help identify some of the often-subtle signs of a concussion and make the informed decision to get further evaluation from a health care professional. Ask Questions:  What month is it? What is the date today? What is the day of the week? What year is it? What time is it right now? (within one hour) They need to go to the ER immediately for evaluation, according to KidsHealth.org: Loss of consciousness, Severe headache / headache that worsens, Blurred vision, Difficulty walking, Confusion / not making sense Slurred speech , Unresponsiveness (unable to be awakened). CONDITION OF THE WEEK: CHIROPRACTIC TO LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE Doctors of chiropractic generally utilize spinal manipulation to address musculoskeletal issues. Most people think that chiropractic is only good for back and neck pain. But chiropractic can do more for a person’s wellness than just relieve pain. A recent double-blinded study compared a group of patients to see how spinal manipulation impacted their blood pressure. The researchers found that “specific thoracic spinal manipulations affected three measures: blood pressure, pulse rate, and changes in hypertension (high blood pressure) classification only in the active treatment group.” If you are one of many people looking to reduce your blood pressure, you may want to add chiropractic care to exercise and healthy eating. The combination will get healthier faster.

FUNNY BONE: A recent scientific study showed that out of 2,293,618,367 people, 94% are too lazy to actually read that number.@@ A man goes to the lawyer: “What is your fee?” Lawyer says: “1000 US dollars for 3 questions.” Man: “Wow - so much! Isn’t it a bit expensive?” Lawyer: “Yes, what is your third question?”@@ Two years ago I asked the girl of my dreams on a date, today I asked her to marry me.  She said no, on both occasions.@@ My friend boasted he had the body of a Greek god. I had to explain where Buddha actually comes from.
