IN THE NEWS: Scientists Warn: Insects With Capacity to Perform Genetic Engineering in the Environment Could Be Easily Weaponized Scientists and legal scholars question the rationale for the use of insects to disperse infectious GE viruses engineered to edit the chromosomes in plants, warning that the technology could very easily be weaponized. A new DARPA program is the first to propose and fund the development of viral horizontal environmental genetic alteration agents with the capacity to perform genetic engineering in the environment. The $27 million project, called “Insect Allies,” is trying to take advantage of insects’ natural ability to spread crop diseases, but instead of carrying disease, they would spread plant-protective traits. The opinion paper “Agricultural Research, or a New Bioweapon System?” argues that if plant modification were really the ultimate goal, a far simpler and more targeted agricultural delivery system could be used. There are also serious concerns about environmental ramifications, as the insects’ spread cannot be controlled. It would also be impossible to prevent the insects from genetically modifying organic crops.

WELLNESS: Thyroid Deficiency Linked to Iodine Deficiency and Fluoridated Water People who have moderate-to-severe iodine deficiencies and higher fluoride levels may be at an increased risk for underactive thyroid gland activity. Pregnant women living in communities with fluoridated drinking water have two times the amount of fluoride in their urine as women living in nonfluoridated communities. Research has previously revealed that women with higher levels of fluoride in their urine during pregnancy were more likely to have children with lower intelligence. Higher levels of fluoride exposure during pregnancy were associated with higher measures of ADHD, including more symptoms of inattention, in the children at ages 6 to 12 years. Note: This is one of the reasons that detoxifying a couple times a year is a good idea. Increasing the number of fruits and vegetables in your diet along with decreasing junk food can enhance detoxification by the body. Drinking alkaline water can help open up detox pathways and facilitate detoxification as well as helping to reduce acidity in the body, acidity can lead to inflammation.

Edna always replied, "I know Buddy, but that helicopter is 50 bucks and 50 bucks is 50 bucks." One year Buddy and Edna went to the fair, and Buddy said, "Edna, I'm 85 years old. If I don't ride that helicopter, I might never get another chance."  to this, Edna replied, " Buddy that helicopter ride is 50 bucks, and 50 bucks is 50 bucks." The pilot overheard the couple and said, "Folks I'll make you a deal. I'll take the both of you for ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and don't say a word I won't charge you a penny! But if you say one word it's $50." Buddy and Edna agreed and up they went. The pilot did all kinds of fancy maneuvers, but not a word was heard. He did his daredevil tricks over and over again, but still not a word... When they landed, the pilot turned to buddy and said, "By golly, I did everything I could to get you to yell out, but you didn't. I'm impressed!" Buddy replied, "Well, to tell you the truth, I almost said something when Edna fell out, but you know, 50 bucks is 50 bucks."
