IN THE NEWS: Women who smoke while pregnant may be hurting their grandkids' health A study that looked at tens of thousands of grandmothers and grandchildren in Sweden found that children whose maternal grandmothers smoked were up to 22 percent more likely to have asthma, even if their mothers never took up the habit, Discovery reports. “We found that smoking in previous generations can influence the risk of asthma in subsequent generations. This may also be important in the transmission of other exposures and diseases," study co-author Caroline Lodge says in a release. The researchers say the inheritance of risk could help explain why there has been a steep rise in asthma cases over the last 50 years, even though smoking rates have declined.

WELLNESS: Study suggests a way to get kids to eat more veggies Researchers from Texas A&M may have found an easier way to get kids to eat their vegetables than trying to convince them Spider-Man actually got his powers from green beans: Just pair veggies with other foods they don't like that much. The Washington Post reports nine out of 10 kids don't eat enough vegetables, and the problem of wasted veggies is only getting worse since the National School Lunch Program started requiring vegetables on every plate. One psychologist tells the Post that schools have found success in serving vegetables on their own, thus eliminating the competition. "We tested it with kids in school cafeterias, where it more than quadrupled the amount of vegetables eaten." (Or, just do what Congress did and declare pizza a vegetable.)

FUNNY BONE: Dear algebra, stop asking us to find your “X”, she's not coming back. We don't know “Y” either.@@ You know you're ugly when it comes to a group picture and they hand you the camera.@@ Is google a woman? Because it won't let you finish your sentence without coming up with other suggestions.@@ How did I escape Iraq? Iran.@@ Apparently I snore so loudly that it scares everyone in the car I'm driving.@@ Relationships are a lot like algebra. Have you ever looked at your X and wondered Y?
