IN THE NEWS: SCIENTISTS DISCOVER NEW 'MICRO-ORGAN' HIDING IN OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM Researchers from Australia’s Garvan Institute of Medical Research identified a structure that “remembers” past infections and vaccinations—and is filled with immune cells of many kinds which respond to pathogens that the body has encountered before. "The [micro-organ] was identified by a sophisticated microscopy technique called intravital two-photon microscopy," Tri Phan, who led the research, told Newsweek. "This allows us to perform three-dimensional imaging in real-time by taking hundreds of ‘slices’ of the lymph node in a live animal in the same way a CAT scan takes hundreds of slices of a patient." "So, this is a structure that's been there all along, but no one's actually seen it yet, because they haven't had the right tools,” Phan said in the statement. “It's a remarkable reminder that there are still mysteries hidden within the body—even though we scientists have been looking at the body's tissues through the microscope for over 300 years.” Note: chiropractic philosophy states that the power that made the body can heal the body. This is just another example of the intelligence in the body that chiropractic releases with the adjustment.

WELLNESS: Is Detoxification Necessary? Everyone is exposed to toxins to a greater or lesser extent, and these chemicals are stored in your body. There are also synergistic effects when exposed to multiple chemicals. The dose of the toxin doesn’t really matter, because a low dose can be just as damaging as a high dose, especially when it comes to endocrine disrupting chemicals. For a detoxification program to be effective, the following three principles must be in place: mobilization, detoxification and excretion. Fasting is a powerful detoxification method as it promotes lipolysis and the mobilization of fat-soluble toxins. To avoid reabsorption, it’s important to take binding agents when fasting and sweat out the toxins, like using an infrared sauna. Having urine pH of 6.4 greatly increases the excretion of acidic xenobiotics and other toxins. The pH of the urine dictates whether a xenobiotic on its way out gets reabsorbed or gets excreted. One cause for acid urine, below 6.4, is due to toxicity drinking alkaline water and eating alkaline food can help your body detox. Note: we offer multiple formulas to help the body detox and for those who want to work with a food base detox program ask about our six-day cleansing diet.

CHIROPRACTIC:  CHIROPRACTIC MONTH every October we celebrate chiropractic month. If you know someone who suffers from some chronic disease or who has injured their spine you need to tell them about chiropractic month. During October if you refer someone to us for care they get a complementary exam and one x-ray to help them attain and maintain good health naturally. If you know someone who suffers from allergies, blood sugar problems, heart disease, skin problems, if they deal with anxiety and depression or sleep disorders chiropractic could help. October is national chiropractic month and we want to help your family and friends enjoy better health. But if you don’t tell them how will they know? People have to live with pain every day because they don’t know about chiropractic. They put their health and body at risk by taking pain pills of any type. Even ibuprofen can cause serious liver and kidney problems if taken chronically. Chiropractic is the most effective approach on the planet to resolve the source of painful conditions. Taking a pain pill does not fix the problem it just covers it up at some risk. As a chiropractic physician I have to find the underlying cause in order to resolve the pain because we don’t just use drugs to cover up symptoms. Under chiropractic care when someone is feeling better is because their body is getting healthier not because were suppressing the symptoms.  IN THE NEWS: Common Acid Reflux Medications Promote Chronic Liver Disease Approximately 10 percent of the general population take a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drug to block stomach acid secretions and relieve symptoms of frequent heartburn, acid reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disease. That percentage can be as much as seven times higher for people with chronic liver disease. Researchers at University of California San Diego School of Medicine have discovered evidence in mice and humans that stomach (gastric) acid suppression alters specific gut bacteria in a way that promotes liver injury and progression of three types of chronic liver disease. The study is published October 10 in Nature Communications. "Our stomachs produce gastric acid to kill ingested microbes, and taking a medication to suppress gastric acid secretion can change the composition of the gut microbiome," said senior author Bernd Schnabl, MD, associate professor of gastroenterology at UC San Diego School of Medicine. "Since we found previously that the gut microbiome — the communities of bacteria and other microbes living there — can influence liver disease risk, we wondered what effect gastric acid suppression might have on the progression of chronic liver disease. We found that the absence of gastric acid promotes growth of Enterococcus bacteria in the intestines and translocation to the liver, where they exacerbate inflammation and worsen chronic liver disease." There are inexpensive and readily available alternatives to PPIs. However, even non-PPI-based antacids (e.g., Pepto-Bismol, Tums, or H2 blockers such as Tagamet and Zantac) still suppress gastric acid to a lesser degree. While these other types of antacids were not tested in this study, Schnabl said any medication that suppresses gastric acid effectively could cause changes in gut bacteria and thus potentially affect the progression of chronic liver disease. Alternatively, non-pharmacological methods for managing heartburn are an option for some patients, including losing weight and reducing intake of alcohol, caffeine, and fatty and spicy foods. An  FDA report cautions against high doses or prolonged use of PPIs, because they’ve been shown to increase the risk of infection, bone fractures and dementia. But the danger doesn’t stop there. All acid stopping drugs (not just PPIs) inhibit nutrient absorption, promote bacterial overgrowthreduce resistance to infection and increase the risk of cancer and other serious diseases.

IN THE NEWS: Conspiracy to Hide New Data on Water Pollution A major government report showing widespread contamination of U.S. water supplies with toxic chemicals was kept from the public for months in order to prevent a “potential public relations nightmare”. The report, prepared by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), focused on perfluoroalkyl chemicals (PFASs), widely used in nonstick cookware, carpet, fabrics, coatings for paper and cardboard packaging and firefighting foams. Widespread water contamination with PFASs was noted near military bases, chemical plants and elsewhere in the U.S.; PFASs have been linked to negative liver, cardiovascular, endocrine, immune, reproductive and developmental effects. The report warned that the chemicals could harm human health at levels significantly lower than those deemed safe by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).NOTE: the EPA has been warning people in large cities to boil the water before they drink it. CONDITION OF THE WEEK: Autoimmune diseases, when your immune system doesn’t like you. Allergies are something that we see all the time and respond well to treatment. When you have allergies, say to ragweed, ragweed isn’t trying to attack you but your immune system thinks it is. All the symptoms from hayfever are caused by your body fighting a non-enemy. That fight can become serious if it starts closing off air passages. There is another condition that similar to allergies and those conditions fall under the umbrella of autoimmune disease. There are more than 80 types of autoimmune diseases, and some have similar symptoms. This makes it hard for your health care provider to know if you really have one of these diseases, and if so, which one. Getting a diagnosis can be frustrating and stressful. Often, the first symptoms are fatigue, muscle aches and a low fever. The classic sign of an autoimmune disease is inflammation, which can cause redness, heat, pain and swelling. The presence of a large amount of autoantibodies or ANAs can indicate an autoimmune disease. ANAs could signal the body to begin attacking itself which can lead to autoimmune diseases,  including lupussclerodermaSjögren ’s syndromepolymyositis/dermatomyositis, mixed connective tissue disease, drug-induced lupus, and autoimmune hepatitis. A positive ANA can also be seen in juvenile arthritis. The good news about autoimmune disease is that, like allergies, the conditioning most cases can be addressed naturally. Some of the treatment is similar to our program for general allergies. The thymus gland which is under your breastbone just below your thyroid is a big player in a lot of autoimmune diseases. The overall approach will include: detox, chiropractic adjustments to reestablish normal control over the immune system, dietary changes to balance blood chemistry, nutritional therapy to rebuild and balance the immune system and the elimination of general allergies. Chiropractic offers a drug-free, safe approach to autoimmune disease.

IN THE NEWS: Adipose Tissue May Affect Cancer Development In Multiple Ways Author: Cornelia M. Ulrich, PhD, Senior Director of Population Sciences at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Background: "Obesity is increasing dramatically worldwide, and is now also recognized as one of the major risk factors for cancer, with 16 different types of cancer linked to obesity," Ulrich said. "We urgently need to identify the specific mechanisms that link obesity to cancer." Ulrich explained that previous research has shown several ways that fat contributes to carcinogenesis. For example, obesity increases the risk of inflammation, which has long been associated with cancer. Also, obesity is believed to affect cancer cell metabolism and immune clearance, all of which can contribute to the growth and spread of tumors, she said. The relationship between fat and carcinogenesis also depends upon "crosstalk," or the ways cells react when the same signal is shared by more than one signaling pathway in two different cell types, Ulrich explained. Identifying ways to interrupt the crosstalk could help researchers identify new cancer prevention strategies. Ulrich added that the study supports the importance of maintaining a healthy body weight. Because fat exists both under the skin and deeper inside the body, even slender people may have excess fat surrounding internal organs. Healthy diets and exercise that includes strength training to build lean muscle mass can help fight the development of excess fat, she said.

Proper Health starts with the correct acid-alkaline balance in your body. The pH level (acid - alkaline measurement) of our internal fluids affects every cell in our bodies. Extended acid imbalances of any kind can overwhelm your body, and lead to health complications.

Just as the body regulates its temperature in a rigid manner, so will it manage to preserve a very narrow pH range - especially in the blood. As a matter of fact, the body will go to such great lengths to maintain a blood pH of 7.365 that it will even create stress on other tissues, body systems, and organs to do so. Chronic acidity will interrupt all cellular activities and functions - it interferes with life itself.

When the pH of the body gets out of balance (too acidic), we may experience low energy, fatigue, excess weight, poor digestion, aches and pains, and even more serious disorders.

The cycle of acidity begins primarily as a result of three things:
1. Ingesting acids. Eating too many acidifying foods like processed sugar, meats, dairy, coffee, alcohol, etc. Create an acid ash in the body. These acids can overload the body's ability to neutralize them.
2. Creation of acids. Pathogens and microforms create acidifying toxins in the body. As the body becomes more and more acidic, bad bacteria, yeasts and other microforms proliferate in the body. Since these organisms are living, they eat as well as create resulting toxins. These toxins are often very acidifying.
3. Improper elimination of acids. Not all acids are the same; some are weak and some are strong. Weak acids like citric acid are much easier to neutralize than strong acids like uric acid. The body uses many systems in order to buffer acids including breath, mineral reserves, and fat. When the body's buffering systems become compromised, excess acids build up.

The process of reestablishing acid-alkaline balance begins with proper diet and nutrition. This includes eating alkalizing foods (vegetables, low sugar fruits, etc.), super hydration (drinking plenty of alkaline water), and proper supplementation.

Keeping yourself BALANCED is your first line of defense in fighting any disease and alkaline water creates a major impact in balancing the body's pH.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

A body that is too acidic provides the ideal environment for diseases to manifest and thrive in. For example, accumulated acid waste in the joints encourages inflammation and arthritis. It turns acidic wastes into solids and stores them in fatty tissues resulting in hardening of the arteries and excess weight. Our body also tries to buffer the effect of this excess acid by taking calcium from the bones, and magnesium needed for heart health.

Therefore, one of the keys to great health is keeping the body pH properly balanced. Because of the predominance of hydroxyl ions produced, making the water highly alkaline, drinking plenty of alkaline water will help dissolves accumulated acid waste and will balance your body pH.

Alkaline water can neutralize the acidity of the body caused by stress, modern diet, air pollution, and many bottled waters.

- A higher pH in the body reduces the need for fat and cholesterol to protect the body from damaging acids.

- Alkaline water is negatively charged and an "antioxidant." Antioxidants reduce cellular and DNA damage caused by free radicals. Negatively charged alkaline water creates energy by giving up ions to positive ions.

- Alkaline water tastes lighter with a pleasantly sweet flavor.

- Improves the body's absorption of essential nutrients

- Improves body function by cleaning your cells from the inside out.

- Using water with a higher pH level improves the taste of beverages and food.

- Improves your immune system function to help you fight diseases.

- Cooking with alkaline water improves the taste and quality of foods and using acidic water when boiling eggs improves their quality

Understanding pH Values

For those not familiar with pH scales:
Pure acid is pH 0
Pure alkaline is pH 14
Neutral (neither acid nor alkaline) is pH 7
pH 7 is ten times more alkaline than pH 6
pH 8 is 100 times more alkaline than pH 6
pH 9 is 1,000 times ore alkaline than pH 6

How much do I drink?

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

CLICK FOR INFO

Your water needs are based on your body weight. Half your body weight is your cleansing dose and 80% of that is your minimum because otherwise you're dehydrated.

100 pound person, 50 ounces is their cleansing dose and 40 ounces is a minimum of fluids they should drink every day.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care. How much alkaline water should I drink? That depends on your pH. We carry very sensitive pH paper for determining your urine pH which is the pH we base your need for alkaline water on. If you're a vegetarian and your pH is already alkaline then you can just drink regular filtered water. But if your pH is lower than 6.4 then you need to drink alkaline water. I would recommend 1 L a day minimum. Depending on your weight more might be indicated.

How alkaline of water should I drink? Water can come from about 7.8 to 10. You can drink water that is to alkaline for you and it is best to be tested at our office to determine the best pH. Waters with a pH of 9 to 9.5 tend to test the best, but your situation might be different.

Both saliva and urine pH should be 6.4. When you maintain that then your blood and cells will be able to maintain the pH that is right for them. Saliva pH indicate your digestive pH whereas urine pH indicates your body pH. So for determining your need for alkaline water urine pH is the one to watch. Also it is recommended not to drink alkaline water with meals. If you're going to drink water with a meal I recommend squeezing several lemon or lime slices in the water to make it acidic. Lemon and lime will be alkaline on your body yet acid in your stomach.

Dr. Folts’ current research is on in vitro platelet mediated coronary thrombosis and anti-oxidants. Dr. Folts developed the experimental model on Aspirin in 1974 and demonstrated by in vitro testing that aspirin can reduce arterial blood clots.

Platelets, a class of blood cells, aid in clotting. They keep a fresh cut in the skin from causing life-threatening blood loss. In persons with coronary artery disease, however, overly sensitive platelets may foster clots that obstruct blood flow through vessels already narrowed by fatty deposits. The result can be a heart attack.

In a host of studies, Folts' team has shown that red wine and dark beers inhibit platelets in the blood from becoming unusually sticky and generating those risky, clot-forming clumps. Indeed, these dark-colored drinks clearly outperform lighter ones, such as vodka, white wine, and pale lagers.

In their new study, the Wisconsin scientists initially recruited five healthy men and women (including Folts) to drink about three servings of purple grape juice at a sitting -- some 20 to 24 ounces. An hour later, the researchers sampled the volunteers' blood and put it into a device that measures platelet stickiness. Compared to blood samples taken an hour prior to drinking the juice, the later blood was almost 50 percent less prone to platelet clumping.

That's a lot of juice, Folts acknowledges, so he decided to explore what would happen if he halved the dose and drank it daily for a week. Two or 3 days after the last glass was drunk, each volunteer returned for another blood test.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

The results, reported this week, indicate that regular consumption of the popular juice appears to have a carryover effect. Even after a hiatus of several days, the volunteers' blood was about 25 percent less likely to clump than before the treatment began.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care. This finding was particularly welcome, Folts notes, because most heart attacks occur in the early morning, sometimes just as an individual is getting up. His group's data now suggest that even if the juice had been drunk the day before, it would still confer some protection.

Unlike aspirin...

For nearly a decade, cardiologists have known that healthy men over 50 -- and postmenopausal women -- can nearly halve their risk of heart attack by taking an aspirin every other day. Like grape juice, this drug appears to work by inhibiting platelet aggregation.

Dr Keefe, Natural Health care, pain Tulsa chiropractor,

However, when adrenaline is pumped into the blood in response to stress or heavy exercise, Folts points out, aspirin's platelet inhibition virtually disappears. So in the new study, he tested grape juice drinkers' blood to see if the same thing happened to them.

In one case, he took the volunteers' blood, added adrenaline to it, and then measured its susceptibility to platelet clumping. In another, some volunteers exercised and then provided blood for analysis. In both cases, Folts says, the juice depressed platelet clumping.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

In the late seventies however, we discovered that if we raised the adrenaline or epinephrine, that the same thing, 75% -80% of the time clot formation comes back with aspirin and that’s a serious problem. That’s why we have spent the last 20 years looking for drugs and food substances that would inhibit the platelets and prevent the clot formation, but also, prevent the renewal of clot formation from elevated epinephrine.

Now, in our previous findings with the animal model, we have shown that red wine, moderate amounts equivalent to 2 glasses in you or I, purple grape juice; not the clear or white grape juice, tea, but not coffee, in this animal model reduced or inhibited platelet mediated clot formation and protected against potentially fatal coronary thrombosis. These flavonoids in red wine, purple grape juice and tea inhibit platelets about the same as aspirin but they have one unique feature. THEY PROTECT AGAINST ELEVATIONS OF ADRENALINE, WHICH ASPIRIN DOES NOT. That makes the flavonoids more desirable.

Diet sodas may be tied to stroke, dementia risk

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

(CNN)Gulping down an artificially sweetened beverage not only may be associated with health risks for your body, but also possibly your brain, a new study suggests.

Artificially sweetened drinks, such as diet sodas, were tied to a higher risk of stroke and dementia in the study, which published in the American Heart Association's journal Stroke on Thursday.

The study sheds light only on an association, as the researchers were unable to determine an actual cause-and-effect relationship between sipping artificially sweetened drinks and an increased risk for stroke and dementia. Therefore, some experts caution that the findings should be interpreted carefully.

No connection was found between those health risks and other sugary beverages, such as sugar-sweetened sodas, fruit juice and fruit drinks.

Are diet sodas dangerous to your health?

"We have little data on the health effects of diet drinks and this is problematic because diet drinks are popular amongst the general population," said Matthew Pase, a senior research fellow in the department of neurology at Boston University School of Medicine and lead author of the new study.

"More research is needed to study the health effects of diet drinks so that consumers can make informed choices concerning their health," he said.

The new study involved data on 2,888 adults older than 45 and 1,484 adults older than 60 from the town of Framingham, Massachusetts. The data came from the Framingham Heart Study, a project of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and Boston University.

In the older-than-45 group, the researchers measured for stroke and in the older-than-60 group, they measured for dementia.

"The sample sizes are different because we studied people of different ages," Pase said. "Dementia is rare in people under the age of 60 and so we focused only on those aged over 60 years for dementia. Similarly, stroke is rare in people aged under 45 and so we focused on people older than age 45 for stroke."

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

The researchers analyzed how many sugary beverages and artificially sweetened soft drinks each person in the two different age groups drank, at different time points, between 1991 and 2001. Then, they compared that with how many people suffered stroke or dementia over the next 10 years.

Compared to never drinking artificially sweetened soft drinks, those who drank one a day were almost three times as likely to have an ischemic stroke, caused by blocked blood vessels, the researchers found.

They also found that those who drank one a day were nearly three times as likely to be diagnosed with dementia.

Those who drank one to six artificially sweetened beverages a week were 2.6 times as likely to experience an ischemic stroke but were no more likely to develop dementia, Pase said.

"So, it was not surprising to see that diet soda intake was associated with stroke and dementia. I was surprised that sugary beverage intake was not associated with either the risks of stroke or dementia because sugary beverages are known to be unhealthy," Pase said.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

In response, Lauren Kane, a spokeswoman for the American Beverage Association, issued a statement from the group that said low-calorie sweeteners found in beverages have been proven safe by worldwide government safety authorities.

"The FDA, World Health Organization, European Food Safety Authority and others have extensively reviewed low-calorie sweeteners and have all reached the same conclusion -- they are safe for consumption," the statement said.

"While we respect the mission of these organizations to help prevent conditions like stroke and dementia, the authors of this study acknowledge that their conclusions do not -- and cannot -- prove cause and effect. And according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), many risk factors can increase an individual's likelihood of developing stroke and dementia including age, hypertension, diabetes and genetics. NIH does not mention zero calorie sweeteners as a risk factor," the statement said. "America's beverage companies support and encourage balanced lifestyles by providing people with a range of beverage choices — with and without calories and sugar — so they can choose the beverage that is right for them."

That sweet drink may age you

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Separate previous studies have shown an association between the intake of sugar-sweetened beverages and adverse health effects, such as type 2 diabetesobesityheart diseasestroke, and possibly even heart failure.

"This article provides further evidence though on artificially sweetened beverages and their possible effects on vascular health, including stroke and dementia," said Dr. Ralph Sacco, professor and chair of neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, about the new study.

Sacco was a co-author of an editorial published alongside the study in the journal Stroke on Thursday.

"We believe the pathways of which artificially sweetened beverages would affect the brain are probably through vascular mechanisms," Sacco said.

Dr Keefe, Keefe Clinic, Natural Health Care, Tulsa Chiropractor, Diet, Pain,

"When the authors controlled for hypertension and diabetes and obesity the effects diminish, which implies that some of the effects of artificially sweetened beverages could still be going through a vascular pathway," he said about the new study. "Many strokes are caused by hardening of arteries; and the risk of dementia is also increased by the hardening of arteries in large and small vessels. So, I believe the mechanisms may be through vascular disease, though we can't prove it."

Heather Snyder, senior director of medical and scientific operations at the Alzheimer's Association, called the new study "a piece of a larger puzzle" when it comes to better understanding how your diet and behaviors impact your brain.

"It's actually really more of your overall diet and overall lifestyle that is linked to cardiovascular disease and diabetes risk, and we do know that heart disease and diabetes are linked to an increased risk of dementia," said Snyder, who was not involved in the new study.

"We know that sugary and artificially sweetened beverages are not great for us. This study adds strength to that, and also says they may not be great for your brain, specifically," she said. "There are alternatives -- things we can all do everyday to keep our brains and our bodies as healthy as we can as we age." Alternatives such as regular cardiovascular exercise that elevates heart rate and increases blood flow and doing puzzles and games to activate and challenge the mind. These are recommendations from the Alzheimer's Associations list of 10 lifestyle habits to reduce risk of cognitive decline.

Stopping blood clots before they happen

bloodDr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Blood clotting, or coagulation, is an important process that prevents excessive bleeding when a blood vessel is injured. Platelets (a type of blood cell) and proteins in your plasma (the liquid part of blood) work together to stop the bleeding by forming a clot over the injury.

Signs and Symptoms of Blood Clots: Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

and Pulmonary Embolism (PE)

Deep Vein Thrombosis:

Signs and Symptoms

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in one of the deep veins of your body, usually in your legs, but sometimes in your arm.  The signs and symptoms of a DVT include:

  • Swelling, usually in one leg (or arm)
  • Leg pain or tenderness often described as a cramp or Charley horse
  • Reddish or bluish skin discoloration
  • Leg (or arm) warm to touch

These symptoms of a blood clot may feel similar to a pulled muscle or a “Charlie horse,” but may differ in that the leg (or arm) may be swollen, slightly discolored, and warm.

Pulmonary Embolism:

Signs and Symptoms

Clots can break off from a DVT and travel to the lung, causing a pulmonary embolism (PE), which can be fatal.  The signs and symptoms of a PE include:

  • Sudden shortness of breath
  • Chest pain-sharp, stabbing; may get worse with deep breath
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Unexplained cough, sometimes with bloody mucus

Call an ambulance or 911 immediately for treatment in the ER if you experience these Pulmonary Embolism symptoms.

Blood clots form when platelets (blood components) and plasma proteins thicken, forming a semisolid mass. This process may be triggered by an injury or it can sometimes occur inside blood vessels that don't have an obvious injury.

Once these clots form, they can travel to other parts of your body, causing harm. Factors and conditions that can cause troublesome blood clots, as well as serious conditions that are associated with blood clots, include:

Dr Cynthia Owusu, an assistant professor at the University Hospitals, in Cleveland, Ohio, and her team undertook a detailed study of 184 women over 65 who had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. After 12 months of treatment – mainly chemotherapy – a fifth were unable to carry out basic daily tasks. These included walking across a room, light housework, shopping, kneeling or standing long enough to have a shower. Dr Owusu said it was largely due to ‘chemotherapy toxicity’ which essentially means the treatment is poisoning the body. Seven women died within the year, due to the side effects of the treatment or as a result of another illness other than breast cancer. In rare cases chemotherapy can be fatal and it causes damage to the heart, lungs, kidneys and liver. 'Beyond treating the cancer itself, the whole person has to be considered, including other health concerns and also the emotional impact of diagnosis and treatment. These foods reduce inflammation in the body which is the latest scientific understanding for heart disease. The cholesterol theory for heart disease has never once been proven through scientific studies in the past 50 years. Unfortunately sometimes politics and fraud produce practices that takes years to expose and change. If you’re taking drugs for cholesterol your shortening your life span. CHIROPRACTIC: INCREASING COMMUNICATION WITHIN THE BODY Health is when your cells and organs are functioning properly in relationship with the rest of the body. How does the liver know what the stomach needs? It doesn’t, it’s the nervous system that not only initiates function but coordinates function throughout the body. If your nervous system is under too much stress organs and glands start to malfunction. Chiropractic adjustments reestablish and tune the proper communication and thus coordination to body function. Chiropractic patients have an immune system that functions substantially more efficient than the average person on the street. Studies show that regular chiropractic care improves the repair of DNA. Tell a friend about chiropractic they will be glad you did.

Muscle pain

Muscle pain that hangs on can be annoying. Be it from an accident, beginning an exercise program or just sleeping in the wrong position, adjustments and trigger point therapy can be quite effective.

Sometimes you can have muscle problems due to toxicity and we offer several detox programs to help (Alkalize Detox Green Superfood 1 serving per day). Nutritional deficiencies can also play a part in muscle pain. Magnesium is the most deficient mineral in the American diet and many people need to supplement with magnesium. Magnesium Complex (2-4per day).

For muscle injuries Pain Relief Cream is extremely effective. Don’t forget to drink enough water because dehydration can lead to muscle problems: your water needs are based on your body weight. One half of your body weight in ounces is your flushing or cleansing dose, 80% of that is your minimum dose. For instance a 100 pound person, then 50 ounces is a cleansing dose and 40 ounces is the minimum dose per day in fluids.

Heart disease

heart attackDr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

The cholesterol theory of heart disease has been disproven several years ago. The most common cause for heart is an inflammatory chemistry. Junk food, stress a diet out of balance can all lead to an inflammatory chemistry. Inflammation can lead to changes in the coronary arteries which lead to narrowing of the arteries which can lead to a heart attack or stroke. Ways of reducing inflammation in the body includes eating anti-inflammatory foods ( http://www.keefeclinic.com/wp/foods-that-reduce-inflammation/ ), fish oils are very beneficial, drinking alkaline water as well as alkaline producing foods. Common sense approach to heart problems

Do the “experts” know what they’re doing?

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Most people realize that heart disease is not due to a drug deficiency or lack of preventive surgeries. Heart disease is both a lifestyle and diet problem. The most current research points to inflammation, not cholesterol, as the cause for most heart disease. But based on current medical procedures this information is totally ignored. Probably the biggest reason that this information is ignored is that pharmaceutical companies drive most medical research and thus medical procedures. Pharmaceutical companies are multibillion-dollar enterprises that primarily fund and direct medical practice. Pharmaceutical companies are looking after their bottom line not necessarily your health.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

The cholesterol theory of heart disease has failed to be established by major research. In fact it has been said that every cholesterol study for the past 50 years has failed. The Framingham study is the longest-running study on heart disease and diet. It has found that over the age of 45 people who have a higher cholesterol level outlive the people who have a lower cholesterol level. You might want to read that statement one more time. Cholesterol is a bystander in the coronary heart disease epidemic. Inflammation and other factors damage the lining of the blood vessel. White blood cells sensing the damage enter in to the damaged area and pull in cholesterol, calcium and laydown fibrin in an attempt to heal the damage. Because the factors that are driving the inflammation continue the corresponding plaque builds up over time.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Within the inflammation soup you have chlorine, fluoride, methane gas from the intestines and acidic byproducts from an improper diet that make up the insult to the blood vessels. Also hormones like insulin are pro-inflammatory and thus too much junk food and refined carbohydrates play a role in the inflammation process.

Dr Keefe, Keefe Clinic, Natural Health Care, Tulsa Chiropractor, Diet, Pain,

Medical approaches have been shown through research to be very ineffective at addressing coronary heart disease. Yes they can reduce cholesterol numbers with drugs but as the Framingham study indicates that just increases the patient’s risk of death. Let’s just cover some of the common medical procedures. First we’ll talk about balloons and stents: in 2003 the Mayo Clinic found that these procedures did not reduce complaints, did not prevent heart attacks, did not prolong life, did not reduce the frequency of heart attacks or deaths and the flattening of plaque in the vessel walls not only regularly lead to bleeding into the vessel walls but small lumps became detached and floated into the bloodstream causing acute heart attack. The bottom line is stents increased death rates.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

 Stents cause higher death rate

New England Journal of Medicine, Cindy L Grines, M.D. Beaumont cardiologist

Worldwide study involve 900 patients at 62 centers. All patients in the study were treated within 12 hours of the heart attack. A higher death rate (2.4% stent and angioplasty versus 2.7% angioplasty) they also unexpectedly experienced decreased blood flow from stent placements. Dr. Grines says "the higher mortality rate and decrease in blood flow makes it necessary for additional research to be conducted before routine stenting can be recommended as a standard of care."

It appears no one is studying the research.

Although catheterization and stents have been claimed to be life-saving measures, they do not prevent heart attacks or save lives. This intervention is accompanied by a great placebo effect. Conclusions.... We could not demonstrate a long-term benefit of an early invasive strategy in reducing death or MI (invasive versus conservative treatment in unstable coronary syndromes ICTUS (invasive versus conservative treatment of unstable coronary syndromes)

Heart bypass not effective long-term

The average death rate for bypass surgery is greater than the average death rate of heart patients treated without surgery. Heart disease progresses faster in those who have had invasive surgery and in those treated non-surgically. Heart surgery kills thousands of patients per year and debilitate thousands more.

Benefits of taking aspirin each day

Death rate:

37% increase in gastrointestinal bleeding (68-117 per 100,000)

32%-38% increase hemorrhagic stroke (8-10 per 100,000)

Aileen Clark, professor of public health and research director at Warwick medical school, said, "It is clear that there is an incredible fine balance between the possible benefits and risk of intervention. We need to be extremely careful about over promoting aspirin intervention without having 1st fully understood these negative side effects."

Chiropractic

Chiropractic adjustments help balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

Multiple studies show people with ischemic heart disease have a decreased parasympathetic activity by over 30%. Over 80% of ischemic events are preceded by a dramatic reduction of parasympathetic activity.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Diet

The important thing about diet is that there are different body types that require different eating programs. Studies show the global use of the Heart Association diet has failed in every country that it has been tested in. So the first thing we need to do is determine your body type and get you eating the correct ratio of fats, carbohydrates and protein for your genetic makeup. Next we need to make sure were maximizing the reduction of inflammation. Besides eating the right diet there are key foods like salmon and tuna, certain vegetables and fruits that are high in antioxidants like pomegranate and blueberries. Eating properly reduces the inflammation that leads to heart disease. Along with diet targeted nutrition to support the heart and healthy blood vessels is crucial to recovery.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

PH is important when it comes to inflammation and most people who have inflammatory issues are usually very acidic. Again diet can control pH and drinking alkaline water can be beneficial. As we talk about water we need to talk about a whole host of chemicals in the water that can damage your cardiovascular system. The chlorine/chloramine, fluoride can damage the arteries. Studies have shown trace amounts of pharmaceutical drugs in city water supplies that need to be filtered out. Drink clean water, dehydration can lead to inflammation. The formula for water intake is that your cleansing dose is half your body weight in ounces and your minimum dose is 80% of that. I hundred pound person should drink between 40 and 50 ounces of fluids every day.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Exercise

30 minutes of exercise 3+ times a week can improve heart function and reduce stress hormones that can lead to ischemic reactions to the heart and increase blood pressure. Intense exercise can be a problem if you don’t eat a large amount of antioxidants because intense aerobic exercises can increase the oxygen level of your blood to a point of inflammation because oxygen is acidic. So too much intense exercise can actually have a negative effect on your heart health depending on your antioxidant intake.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Relaxation

Meditation and/or prayer have been shown to extend life and improve health recovery when practiced on a regular basis. Music, nature walks, family time are just a few of the things that can help the stress the nervous system and thus the body.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Detoxification

Heavy metals, certain chemicals in our environment as well as waste products from normal metabolism can a burden to the body and contribute to heart disease. Fasting, detox diets and supplements targeted at the detox pathways can be important for health recovery.

Most people who have symptoms of heart disease and follow the above program would notice improvement of symptoms within a few days to a couple of weeks and be totally symptom-free and out of trouble within a months’ time. This represents a rational approach to eliminating heart disease over the long-term.

The vertical jump height improved only in the adjustment group. But, the functional leg length inequality improved in both the adjustment and stretching group. Take Home: Stretching did affect functional leg length inequality but adjustment improved the functional leg length inequality as well as the jump height.

Measuring stomach pH/function using pH paper

feeding tubeDr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

The official way to measure stomach pH is to start with the stomach empty so only fluid remains in the stomach. Stomach fluid is removed through a tube that is inserted into the stomach through the esophagus (food pipe).

www.facebook.com/KeefeClinicDr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

An easier way to approach this to get a “relative” stomach pH is to use pH paper to test your saliva. Normal saliva pH should be 6.4 as the pH of the stomach goes up and down the saliva will change in its pH as well.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

You can demonstrate this on yourself by checking your pH and then consuming a meal and recheck your pH over the next hour. You should notice that your pH becomes alkaline right away as the acid in the stomach is being diluted by the food. In most cases it takes 30 minutes to an hour before your pH returns to the pre-meal state. If it takes longer for your pH to return to normal that suggest a weakness in the digestive process. Even though this test doesn’t give you an exact stomach pH it will give you a functional pH significant enough to tell you how your digestive process is doing.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

To do proper pH testing on the body it’s important to have pH paper that is sensitive to subtle changes. The common pH paper that’s found in the drugstore is usually not sensitive enough to do proper body pH testing. Some papers only test every .5 in the pH scale you want to paper that tests every .2 in the pH scale. Your urine and saliva pH should be 6.4 under normal circumstances during the day. The exceptions to this is that your urine pH becomes concentrated overnight and tends to be more acid. And so if you want an accurate urine pH it’s best to check it sometime after your first morning void. Then the pH should be 6.4 any other time that you tested it unless you’re having an allergy reaction which would tend to make it more acidic.

Your saliva as we mentioned earlier will become more alkaline right after a meal. So the best time to check your saliva pH is either before you eat or more than an hour after you eat.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

By checking your saliva pH every 30 minutes after a meal can reveal subtle problems with the digestive process. If it takes more than an hour for your saliva pH to return to its pre-meal state then that suggest a weak digestive system.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

The problem in the digestive system causing your saliva pH to be off could be anywhere within the digestive track and so an evaluation is necessary to find the source of the problem. We recommend that if you start a meal at a pH 7 or higher that you take enzymes both before and after that meal. Most enzymes are best taken at the end of a meal unless their vegetable-based enzymes. The idea is that you want your digestive system to do as much as it can and then just supplement it to help improve a more thorough breakdown of your foods.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Undigested food is an irritant to your colon. This is why chronic use of antacids are so dangerous not only because they put undigested food which is an irritant to the lining of the colon but they also allow microorganisms that would normally be killed in the upper digestive track. HCl helps purify your food as well as breaking it down. So chronic use of antacids would deprive you of essential nutrients from the foods that you eat. And since minerals are metal they will be the first of the nutrients that you will start noticing deficiencies from. But other elements like B-12 are classically found low in people who use antacids chronically.

fda-logoDr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

“The FDA report cautions against high doses

or prolonged use of PPIs, because they’ve been

shown to increase the risk of infection, bone fractures and dementia.”

But the danger doesn’t stop there. All acid stopping drugs (not just PPIs) inhibit nutrient absorption, promote bacterial overgrowth, reduce resistance to infection and increase the risk of cancer and other serious diseases.”

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Your body pH, which is tested through the urine, can also be a factor affecting your digestive pH. It’s not uncommon to find both of these pHs to be extremely different and at opposite extremes. If your urine pH, body pH, becomes way too acid there can be a negative feedback loop that suppresses your stomach’s production of even more acid. So an attempt to correct your digestive pH you might have to utilize techniques to improve your body pH. Since most of our chronic diseases develop in an inflammatory chemistry having an acid urine can be a indicator of inflammatory chemistry.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Utilizing alkaline water or alkalizing foods can have a healing effect on an inflammatory chemistry. You can ask for a pH food list to help correct your body pH if it is too acid or to alkaline. If your urine is too acid then you need to eat more alkalizing foods which are listed on the handout.

As we discuss inflammatory and anti-inflammatory foods we must understand the difference in body types. There were four body types that require slightly different blends of carbohydrates fat, and proteins. These can be divided into two basic groups one the high complex carbohydrate low-fat and the other being high-protein low carbohydrate. If you’re in a high complex carbohydrate low-fat group then foods like eggs, butter, salt, redmeat and some spices could be a problem. If you’re in the high protein low carb group than refined carbohydrates sugars grains could be a problem. So it’s important to know what body type you have as you review the following list of anti-inflammatory foods. Also any food that you’re allergic to can be pro-inflammatory even on the list of anti-inflammatory foods. For instance the nightshade family can be pro-inflammatory if you’re allergic to them. They include: potatoes (Solanum tuberosum), tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum), many species of sweet and hot peppers (all species of Capsicum, including Capsicum annum), and eggplant (Solanum melongena). Less well know, but equally genuine nightshade foods include ground cherries (all species of Physalis), tomatillos (Physallis ixocapra), garden huckleberry (Solanum melanocerasum), tamarillos (Cyphomandra betacea), pepinos (Solanum muricatum), and naranjillas (Solanum quitoense). Pimentos (also called pimientos) belong to the nightshade family, and usually come from the pepper plant Capsicum annum. Pimento cheese and pimento-stuffed olives are therefore examples of foods that should be classified as containing nightshade components. Although the sweet potato, whose scientific name is Ipomoea batatas, belongs to the same plant order as the nightshades (Polemoniales), it does not belong to the Solanaceae family found in this order, but to a different plant family called Convolvulaceae.

Inflammation is one of the body's defense mechanisms. Inflammation results in increased blood flow in response to infection and certain chronic conditions. Symptoms of inflammation include redness, swelling, pain, and heat.

But when inflammation becomes uncontrolled then it becomes the soil for chronic disease. Besides foods, stress, obesity, toxicity and an acidic chemistry help produce uncontrolled inflammation in the body.

Diseases that arise from inflammatory chemistry can be the following: Autoimmune disorders, Obesity, allergies, Alzheimer's, anemia, ankylosing spondylitis, asthma, autism, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, celiac, Crohn's disease, congestive heart failure, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, eczema, fibromyalgia, fibrosis, gallbladder disease, Gerd, Guillain-Barré , Hashimoto's thyroiditis, heart attack, kidney failure, lupus, multiple sclerosis, neuropathy, pancreatitis, psoriasis, polymyalgia rheumatica, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, stroke, surgical complications, many other pain disorders.

"Don't count on milk to beat osteoporosis.
In a Harvard study of 78,000 nurses, drinking three or more glasses of milk per day did not reduce fractures at all. An Australian study showed the same thing.

Nearly 78,000 nurses participated in the 12-year milk and bone fracture study. MILK, DIETARY CALCIUM AND BONE FRACTURES The study found "no significant association" between teenage milk consumption and the risk of adult fractures. Data from the study indicate that frequent milk consumption and higher dietary calcium intakes in middle aged women do not provide protection against hip or forearm fractures. A SHOCKING AND UNEXPECTED REVELATION

a harvardDr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.In the Harvard study, women consuming greater amounts of calcium from dairy foods had significantly INCREASED risks of hip fractures, while no increase in fracture risk was observed for the same levels of calcium from non-dairy sources.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Consumption of dairy products, particularly at age 20 years, was associated with an increased risk of hip fracture in old age. (“Case-Control Study of Risk Factors for Hip Fractures in the Elderly”. American Journal of Epidemiology. Vol. 139, No. 5, 1994).

Dr Keefe, Keefe Clinic, Natural Health Care, Tulsa Chiropractor, Diet, Pain,

And the 12 year long Harvard Nurses’ Health Study found that those who consumed the most calcium from dairy foods broke more bones than those who rarely drank milk. This is a broad study based on 77,761 women aged 34 through 59 years of age.

These data do not support the hypothesis that higher consumption of milk or other food sources of calcium by adult women protects against hip or forearm fractures.” (Source: Feskanich D, Willett WC, Stampfer MJ, Colditz GA. Milk, dietary calcium, and bone fractures in women: a 12-year prospective study. American Journal of Public Health. 1997).

Dr Keefe, Keefe Clinic, Natural Health Care, Tulsa Chiropractor, Diet, Pain,Amy Lanou Ph.D., nutrition director for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington, D.C., who states that: “The countries with the highest rates of osteoporosis are the ones where people drink the most milk and have the most calcium in their diets. The connection between calcium consumption and bone health is actually very weak, and the connection between dairy consumption and bone health is almost nonexistent.”

The best milk substitutes

A favorite milk substitute is unsweetened almond milk, not only because it is alkalizing (as almonds are), but also because it’s delicious and tastes very similar to milk. You can even cook with it!

If almond milk is hard to get, you can also try rice or soy milk

THERE is not a shred of evidence that upping calcium intake above a relatively low threshold, improves bone health or reduces the risk of bone fractures.

British-Medical-JournalDr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.A study just published in the prestigious British Medical Journal hammers another nail into the coffin of the eat-more-calcium-for-stronger-bones myth, with the finding that women with the highest intake of calcium had a 19% higher risk of experiencing a hip fracture than those whose calcium intake was modest but adequate.

This study's strengths included: the large number of study subjects (over 60 000 Swedish women); the duration of follow-up (19 years); the fact that it was prospective (i.e. the participants were recruited before any of them had suffered a fracture) and calcium intake was repeatedly measured over the follow-up period, eliminating the problem of 'recall bias' -the tendency of people who have already suffered a disease, to overestimate their past exposure to risk factors for it - that plagues retrospective studies; and the statistical adjustment for various other factors that affect bone health and fracture risk, such as smoking, physical activity level, and whether the women had had children (which decreases fracture risk).

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care. The researchers analyzed the participants' diet records, and divided them into 5 groups, from lowest to highest calcium intake. They found that women with the lowest calcium intake from foods and supplements (less than 750 mg per day) had an 18% higher risk of suffering any type of fracture, and a 29% greater risk of hip fracture, than women who consumed 882-996 mg of calcium per day (an amount easily achieved on an entirely plant-based diet, high in green leafy vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds).

However, women with the highest calcium intake (more than 1137 mg per day) had a 19% higher risk of suffering a hip fracture than those in the 882-996 mg/day group. Given that the Australian government now recommends a daily intake of 1300 mg of calcium for individuals over 50, and many older women are taking more than 1000 mg per day of calcium from supplements, above and beyond what they obtain through their diet, the findings from this carefully-conducted study must give serious pause for thought.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

According to Carolyn Dean, a medical and naturopathic doctor:

"I've heard statistics like a 700 percent rise in osteoporosis in a 10-year period, even while taking all this calcium. The myth that's been created about calcium is that we need twice as much calcium as we do magnesium. Most of the supplements reflect this. We've got a situation where people are taking 1,200 to 1,500 milligrams of calcium and maybe a few hundred milligrams of magnesium.

The 2:1 ratio—that was a mistake; a mistaken translation from French researcher Jean Durlach, who said never ever go beyond two parts calcium to one part magnesium in your food, water, or supplement intake combined."

Twelve green leafy vegetables were analyzed for their mineral contents. The following concentration ranges (in mg g−1 dry weight) were obtained for the elements determined: sodium, 0·11–0·76; potassium, 0·36–1·07; calcium, 0·24–0·73; phosphorus, 0·18–0·39; magnesium, 0·66–1·76; manganese, 0·03–0·12; iron, 0·35–0·56; zinc, 0·04–0·12. SIX DAY CLEANSING DIET

This is your six-day special food program. For best results it must be followed exactly as written.

When an automobile is full of carbon, it has no pep.  It is clogged up.  You may put in the very best gas and oil, but the speed is not there.  The sensible and logical thing to do is to take the car to a mechanic and have the carbon cleaned out.  After that is done, what happens?  The car seems like new. There is plenty of power.

Your body is comparable to the car.  When the cells, of which you have many millions, are clogged up with ACID—SUGAR—MUCUS—PUS—etc-, you have no pep, your appetite is poor, you do not sleep well, your complexion is-bad, your eyes are dull, you suffer from aches and pains you are nervous and irritable, you feel indifferent—everything seems wrong.  Life is not so much fun as it once was; in fact, you are really ill.

The sensible and logical thing to do is to CLEAN OUT, not just your bowels, but also the cells.  Purge these cells—get all this accumulated toxic material out.  But how?

Well, that’s easy.  OBSERVE THIS SPECIAL FOOD PROGRAM.  It does it every time!  For six short days you will be on a FEAST—not a fast.  You will be filling your body with Nature’s life-giving foods—fruits and vegetables that contain all those precious vitamins and minerals.  When a sufficient amount of these live substances reaches the cells of your body, there will be a flushing and a cleansing such as you have never experienced before.  You will eliminate toxic material that has been with you for years—toxic material that has robbed you of your vitality.  When this gets all out, you will be like the car that has been cleaned of the carbon.  You will have plenty of energy—your complexion will undergo a marvelous transformation—you will feel like a baby—aches and pains will disappear -your nerves will be at ease and you will feel so good that life will be a joy.

That is what this SPECIAL 6-DAY PROGRAM will do.  Follow directions carefully. When you start this program—STICK TO IT! Don’t try it 1 day and then quit! After this program, you are to ALWAYS have some fresh raw fruit or vegetables with every meal!

Teeth, Dr Keefe, Natural Health care, pain, Tulsa chiropractor,

Dr. Price (a Harvard Professor) was one of the greatest pioneers in this field of tooth cures. His amazing discoveries based on ancient wisdom from indigenous cultures across the planet-Fiji to the Swiss Alps-showed how to restore dental health without surgery or chemicals. This he did by going to many different indigenous groups the world over who showed remarkable quality of teeth. There were (at least in the early 1900s) people every-where to be found with perfect or near-perfect teeth. Instead of 50 to 95 percent tooth decay like people in modern society, certain peoples exhibited 5 to 0 percent tooth decay! What were these people doing differently and could their habits or results be emulated? This is what Dr. Price set out to find out.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Time and time again, Dr. Price documented the tragic plight of indigenous people coming into contact with industrialization. For extended periods of time, many of these groups enjoyed a life without significant tooth decay. But with the arrival of industry and commerce, and with them-modern foods-their teeth began to degenerate. Weston Price was widely respected in his time, and frequently published in many dental journals, including several articles in the Journal of the American Dental Association.

Fluoride

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Fluoride is the smallest negative particle and destroys enzyme molecules at very low concentrations. Fluoride actually destroy 83 of the enzymes in the body. The mechanism and process by which it destroys these enzymes has been proven by X-ray studies. Fluoride breaks up the hydrogen bonds that keep your mouth and teeth intact. It is extremely poisonous unleashing positive hydrogen bonds in enzymes and proteins. Fluoride also detaches the gum tissues forming 1-to-8 mm deep pockets. Fluoride is a nerve poison that causes cavities.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

According to Dr. Judd, (a Ph.D., Chemist and professor of Chemistry for over 33 years, and a Researcher in the industry), "To avoid fluoride is to prevent more than 114 ailments ... These 114 medical side effects extend all the way from cancers down to headaches caused by 1 ppm fluoride in the water. Thirteen of these side effects are proven by a double blind study on 60 patients by 12 physicians, 1 pharmacist and 1 attorney."

Healthy-Teeth-from-the-inside-out-supporting-oral-health-with-nutrition-and-supplements, Dr Keefe, Natural Health care, pain, Tulsa chiropractor,

Using nutrition, Dr. Weston A. Price reduced the rate of tooth decay 250 times in 17 individuals who had severe tooth decay. In this group, approximately half of all teeth had been affected by decay prior to Price's nutritional program. After the program, only two new cavities formed within a 3-year time period putting the rate of reoccurrence at 0.4 percent.'

SILICA

Calcium, of course, is important for your bone growth and formation but even more important is the mineral called silica (silicon dioxide). You don't have enough of this mineral in your diet and you can take a ton of calcium and brush your teeth five times a day and still lose your teeth, just like your hair in the shower, as you get older without it.

Biosil, Dr Keefe, Natural Health care, pain, Tulsa chiropractor,      The formula called BioSiL is known to provide a sufficient nutritional support for your tooth repair/growth. It will improvc your teeth, bones, and connective tissue, and will also help calcium metabolize in your body (without it most of your calcium will go right through you, especially if you take it as a part of a common multivitamin formula). According to the makers of BioSiL (Si[OH]) it is 20,000 times more soluble than silica (Si02-found in horsetail and colloidal gels) and 2.5 times more bioavailable than other forms of silicon according to the makers of Biosil.

hydrogen-peroxide, Dr Keefe, Natural Health care, pain, Tulsa chiropractor,Besides nutrition here are some other recommendations: soak your tooth brush in hydrogen peroxide, you can also use hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash. Hydrogen peroxide is a natural, safe antibiotic. Use salt and baking soda on your toothpaste. Find a fluoride free toothpaste to use, below are some options. Be sure to brush your gums. If you have a tooth infection besides using hydrogen peroxide, chewing on the clove of garlic (a natural antibiotic) can work quite well.

Teeth cleaning

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

Teeth cleaning options for optimum cleaning instead of regular tooth paste would be toothsoap (www. toothsoap.com). Otherwise you can always make your own with all or some of these ingredients:

1.            Unprocessed raw coconut oil (also swishing this for a minute a day will help clean and pull out junk from the teeth)

2.            Tea tree oil

3.          Baking soda 1/10 part

4.         Extra virgin olive Oil (2 part)

5.        Spearmint or peppermint oil (1/10 part)

6.        Unprocessed sea salt or Himalayan salt (1/50 part)

7.       Eucalyptus oil (1/10 part)

8.      Food-grade hydrogen peroxide (1/10 part)

Dr Keefe, Natural Health care, pain, Tulsa chiropractor,

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THE FOODS you consume can affect your smile as much as brushing or flossing. Every time you eat sugary or starchy foods, the bacteria in plaque get another chance to form decay-causing acid. And bad breath can make you want to hide even the most pristine teeth.

But choosing the following foods that naturally fight bacteria, remove plaque, strengthen enamel, and freshen breath is a good way to preserve your pearly whites.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

1. Celery
Celery protects your teeth in two ways, says Lana Rozenberg, D.D.S., a holistic dentist and founder of Rozenberg Dental Day Spa in New York City. The extra chewing it requires produces plenty of saliva, which neutralizes the bacteria Streptococcus mutans that causes cavities. Additionally, chomping on naturally abrasive foods massages gums and cleans between teeth. Try This: Snack on a handful of raw celery or carrots once a day.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

2. Cheese
Studies from the last decade show that cheese, with its low carbohydrate and high calcium and phosphate content, provides several benefits for your teeth. It helps balance your mouth's pH (an acidic pH encourages the growth of cavity-causing bacteria). Cheese also preserves and rebuilds tooth enamel and produces saliva, which kills the bacteria that cause cavities and gum disease. Try This: Enjoy a 1-inch cube (about 1/2 ounce) of cheese after dinner instead of a sweet dessert.

Dr. Keefe, Keefe Clinic. Tulsa Chiropractor, pain, natural health care.

3. Green Tea
Green tea (Camellia sinensis) contains substances called catechins that kill the bacteria in your mouth that turn sugar into plaque (a sticky mass of bacteria, sugars, proteins, and fats that produces cavity-causing acid when it comes in contact with sugary or starchy foods). Catechins also wipe out the bacteria that cause bad breath. Try This: Drink 2 to 5 cups of green tea (regular or decaffeinated) a day, says Mindy Green, director of research at the Herb Research Foundation in Boulder, Colo. Consider making a thermos of green tea to drink at work. The night before, steep 3 to 4 green tea bags in 4 cups of boiling-hot water in a covered thermos for three to five minutes. Remove the bags. Serve the tea the next day over ice or after reheating it.

4. Kiwi Fruit
For their size, kiwis pack more vitamin C than any other fruit. In fact, one large kiwi supplies more than 100 percent of your recommended daily amount. If you don't get enough vitamin C, research shows that the collagen network in your gums can break down, making your gums tender and more susceptible to the bacteria that cause periodontal disease. Try This: Instead of topping your morning oatmeal with brown sugar, use a sliced kiwi.

5. Onions
Onions contain powerful antibacterial sulfur compounds. In a 1997 test tube study, onions killed various types of bacteria, including S. mutans. Research indicates that they are most powerful when eaten freshly peeled and raw. Of course, raw onions can do a number on your breath, so be sure to have some fresh parsley on hand (see below). Try This: Add a few onion slices to salads and sandwiches each day.

6. Parsley
Chewing parsley or mint leaves after a pungent meal will help you maintain sweet-smelling breath. These herbs contain monoterpenes, volatile substances that travel quickly from your bloodstream to your lungs, where their odor is released via your breath. Try This: Top zesty dishes with a few tablespoons of minced fresh parsley or garnish dessert with a few sprigs of fresh mint.

7. Sesame Seeds
According to fossils, our Paleolithic ancestors had great teeth. Anthropologists suggest that this is partly due to the cleansing action of primitive foods like seeds, which slough off plaque and help build tooth enamel. Sesame seeds, for example, are also high in calcium, which helps preserve the bone around your teeth and gums. Try This: Sprinkle a tablespoon of sesame seeds on salads and steamed vegetables a few times a week for a gentle teeth cleaning and 87 mg of calcium.

8. Shiitake Mushrooms
A 2000 study in Caries Research showed that lentinan, a sugar found in shiitake mushrooms, prevents mouth bacteria from creating plaque. Try This: A few times a week, add four to five sliced shiitakes to soups or stir-fries. Buy fresh shiitakes or dried ones, which can be reconstituted by soaking them in hot water for about 25 minutes before use.

9. Wasabi
Otherwise known as Japanese horse-radish, this condiment not only provides zing to sushi, it also protects your teeth. A 2000 study in Biofactors revealed that the substances that make wasabi taste hot, called isothiocyanates, also inhibit the growth of cavity-causing bacteria. Try This: Eating wasabi a few times a week will protect you from cavities. For a smile-saving salad dressing, combine 3 tablespoons rice wine vinegar, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon wasabi paste, 1 teaspoon soy sauce, and 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil.

10. Water

Drinking water keeps your gums hydrated and is the best way to stimulate saliva--your body's greatest defense against the bacteria that cause plaque and cavities. Rinsing your mouth with water also helps wash away trapped food particles that decompose in the mouth and cause bad breath. Try This: Aim to drink six 8-ounce glasses of purified water throughout each day to keep your gums (and whole body) hydrated and to stimulate saliva. If you can't brush your teeth after eating, be sure to rinse your mouth with water.

GI-gallbladder

The gallbladder is a hollow system that sits just beneath the liver. In adults, the gallbladder measures approximately 8 centimetres (3.1 in) in length and 4 centimetres (1.6 in) in diameter when fully distended.  At the neck of the gall bladder is a mucosal fold called Hartmann's pouch, where gallstones commonly get stuck.

When food containing fat enters the digestive tract, it stimulates the secretion of cholecystokinin (CCK). In response to CCK, the adult human gallbladder, which stores about 50 millilitres (1.7 U.S. fl oz; 1.8 imp fl oz) of bile, releases its contents into the duodenum. The bile, originally produced in the liver, emulsifies fats in partly digested food.

During storage in the gallbladder, bile becomes more concentrated which increases its potency and intensifies its effect on fats.

Gallbladder attacks are more common than you may think. Gallstones affect more than 25,000 million Americans with 1 million new cases diagnosed annually, according to the American Gastroenterological Association.

People can go for years with digestive symptoms and never realize that they may be related to a gallbladder problem. That's because they are so inter-woven with other digestive symptoms such as indigestion, gas, bloating and constipation.

SYMPTOMS OF GALLSTONES

Symptoms of a gallbladder attack are often caused by gallbladder stones. However, short of causing an actual attack, stones may be present for years and never cause any symptoms at all. "Biliary pain can occur in about a third of the gallstone patients" (which leaves two thirds NOT experiencing pain) and "sometimes the gallstone symptoms are difficult to differentiate from that of dyspepsia." (indigestion)  The gallstones can impair the functioning of the gallbladder, however, which can result in any of the common gallbladder symptoms.

Gall bladder symptoms can look and feel the same with or without stones. Therefore, all of the symptoms on listed on this page can accompany gallstones.

SILENT GALLSTONES

70-80% of people with gallstones never know they have them. These are called "silent gallstones". However, the remaining 20-30% still results in 500,000-700,000 gallbladder removals every year. And since the diet of the general American population is not improving, those numbers are rising.

The risk of silent gallstones causing a gallbladder attack is about 1% per year.

A study in the New England Journal of Medicine compared the mortality rate from emergency surgery performed for obstructing gallstones with the mortality rate from routine, scheduled gallbladder surgery and concluded that the latter gallbladder surgery is actually more dangerous. They advised that "silent" gallstones should not be subjected to surgery but left alone.

And another study reports:

"We conclude that innocent gallstones are not a myth, and that in some populations the majority of silent gallstones are inconsequential. We believe that routine prophylactic operation for silent gallstone disease, at least in white American men, is neither necessary nor advisable.".

Foods to Avoid for Gallstones:

Eggs, pork, gluten, onion, fowl, milk, coffee, grapefruit, oranges, corn, beans and nuts, alcohol, saturated fats, hydrogenated oils and partially hydrogenated oils

NOTE: green beans are not classified as beans.

Gallstones may be removed from the gallbladder by means of a gallbladder and liver flush.

As noted earlier in the pamphlet bile will concentrate in the gallbladder and if the gallbladder becomes sluggish and doesn't fully empty then this concentrated bile can develop into stones. Olive oil is a great stimulus to the gallbladder to empty itself and thus olive oil can help keep the gallbladder from developing stones. I would recommend at least a tablespoon a day for those individuals who suspect gallbladder problems. There are different supplements that can help dissolve gallstones one of those pectin in apple juice, I would recommend arsenic (pesticide) free organic apple juice. Choline is a supplement we use frequently for gallbladder issues because this can help reduce gallstones. Through testing we can determine the best approach in dealing with gallbladder issues and sometimes it can be purely neurological. Misalignments in the upper mid back can affect gallbladder function and can lead to functional spasms of the gallbladder. Coffee enemas can be very effective at stopping gallbladder attack (ask for coffee enema handout). The gallbladder liver flush indicated earlier is a seven day program that first prepares the stones to be removed and then on Saturday a drink is produced that will have a strong flushing effect on the gallbladder. Note: this flush should be used with some caution as large stones may become lodged in the bile ducts or common bile duct and might require surgery. (After 25 years recommending this no one has required surgery so for).
