Winter time humidity is a big issue. As the weather turns colder and the heaters start working 24/7 then the indoor air will start drying out.
Studies have shown that dry air has four main effects on the human body:
As your body fights the dry air you start to use up your vitamin A stores. This enhances the dry skin and sinus problems as well as weakens your immune system. It is important that you have a humidity gauge in each bedroom and a cool mist humidifier to combat the dry air. I recommend the ultrasonic humidifiers as they put the most water in the air.
Dry skin, Chapped lips, Clogged sinuses, Itchy skin, Dry throat coughs, Cracked nasal membranes, Increased risk of bacteria infection, Aggravated asthma & allergy symptoms
You may also notice these changes around your home:
Drier air causes sinuses to dry and crack, making people more susceptible to winter colds and flu viruses. In fact, this change from higher outside relative humidity to lower indoor relative humidity in the winter is a significant contributing factor in the spread of colds and flus. By maintaining the proper level of humidity indoors, you reduce illness in the winter. Studies have shown that the body's immune system will function better when the relative humidity in a home is between 45%-65%.
Pneumococcus, staphylococcus, and streptococcus bacteria die up to 20 times faster at a relative humidity between 45% and 55%, than above 70% or below 20%. Dehydration can also cause negative health effects. Symptoms of dehydration include dry skin, chronic joint and muscle pain, raspy throat, sinus and nasal pain, sore eyes, a lack of mental concentration, and a decrease in the body's immune system.
|The most comfortable relative humidity for the human body||45-65%RH|
|Ideal relative humidity for prophylactic and curative purposes||40-50%RH|
|Computer and telecom apparatuses||45-65%RH|
|Furniture and musical instruments||40-60%RH|
|Libraries (books), art galleries and museums||40-60%RH|
Dry air can cause or irritate sinus problems, but inhaling moisture can help. Simply breathing the steam from a hot shower will ease congestion.
You can also enhance the steam you breathe with sinus-clearing essential oils. Once or twice a day, add five drops of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), or sandalwood (Santalum album) essential oils (or a combination) to a large bowl of steaming-hot water, suggests Sylvia Goldfarb, Ph.D., of Wyncote, Pa., author of Allergy Relief (Avery Penguin Putnam, 2000). Drape a towel over your head and the bowl, and breathe deeply for 10 minutes. You'll feel relief within that time.
To treat acute sinusitis, substitute tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) and repeat the sinus steam three to four times daily. Tea tree oil's powerful antibacterial properties fight the bacteria that cause many infections," says Karen Barnes, N.D., a naturopath in Burlington, Ontario, and author of Naturopathic First Aid (Quarry Press, 2001). Your symptoms should clear up within a few days.
Rinsing your sinuses with saltwater helps them drain mucus. Studies show that this significantly reduced symptoms like pain and inflammation in more than 2/3 of sinusitis sufferers. Heatley says recommending nasal irrigation to her patients cut the number of sinus surgeries she performed in half.
To rinse your sinuses, use a neti pot, a small teapot-like device sold at most natural food stores. Combine three parts non-iodized salt and one part baking soda, and add 1/2 teaspoon of this mixture to 1/2 cup of warm water in the pot. This solution matches your body's salinity, and baking soda makes it less irritating to your sinuses.
Lean over a sink and insert the spout of the pot into your left nostril. Tilt your head and the pot to the right and let the solution flow out your right nostril. Exhale forcefully through both nostrils and repeat on the other side. Repeat as needed.
The zing of certain spices opens clogged sinuses and promotes drainage. As condiments, use hot salsas or chutneys that contain chiles, or sprinkle cayenne pepper on your food, recommends Goldfarb or use wasabi.
Car accidents are most likely the number one cause for chronic disability and/or pain. The August 1999 issue of American Family Physicians, the article notes that 3.5 million people are injured in motor vehicle accidents in the U.S. each year. Even minor car accidents can cause changes in the spine that can lead to degenerating joint disease and future pain. Studies indicate that chiropractic care is the best treatment for the vast majority of injuries from a car accident. The main reason that chiropractic patients have less problems in the future and recover better from their present complaints is because of the focus in chiropractic care.
The injuries to the spine will cause slight misalignments in the joints of the neck and back. It's these misalignments that produce the majority of symptoms, not pulled muscles. Chiropractic care and analysis focuses on the detection and correction of spinal subluxations. Subluxation is the term for misalignments that develop in the spine. These misalignments can stay there for years unless they are corrected by chiropractic adjustments. The average patient after a car accident that visit an emergency room usually are only given pain pills and muscle relaxers. This of course allows the misalignments to remain. It's this focus on just the symptoms of the injury that leave a high percent of car accident victims with ongoing disability, pain and degenerating joint disease.
One study showed problems five or more years after the accident. Symptomatic recovery occurred in 57 per cent of the 146 patients, while degenerative changes developed after the injury in 39 per cent. Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, 1974;56:1675-1682.

Cerebral symptoms after whiplash injury of the neck: a prospective clinical and neuropsychological study of whiplash injury. Ettlin TM, Kischka U, Reichmann S, Radii EW, Heim S, Wengen D, Benson DF. University Clinics, Basel, Switzerland.
Twenty one unselected patients with an acute whiplash injury of the neck had neurological and neuropsychological assessment, cervical x rays, EEG, BAEP, MRI, and an otoneurological examination within two weeks of the injury. Subjectively, 13 patients reported concentration deficits, 18 reported sleep disturbances, 9 had symptoms of depression, and 7 female patients told of menstrual irregularities. Scientific Automobile Accident Reconstruction treatise by Barzeley; Published by Mathew Bender 1984; Chapter 46:
" The simple fact remains: neck injuries do occur as a result of rear-end automobile accidents. 46-2
" Whiplash injuries may be present as a result of automobile accidents, even though no physical, radiological or other objective evidence of injury can be found. 46-3
" Usually the onset of symptoms occurs from 12 to 24 hours afterward. Sometimes there may be as much as weeks or even months delay between the automobile accident and the experience of symptoms. 46-5
" Most people just don't expect injuries to occur when the impact velocity has been low and damage to the vehicles has not been great. It is common sense to expect that the severity of the injuries should be in proportion to the severity of the collision. However, whiplash injuries most frequently result from relatively minor automobile accidents without major damage done to the vehicles. 46-6
" Rear-end collisions produce a sudden forceful hyperextension of the neck which is immediately followed by recoil into neck flexion. 46-8
" Probably most of the injuries result from the sudden traumatic snapping of the neck when the acceleration of the head suddenly shifts directions. 46-10
In most cases you're better off in the long-term to break a bone than to damage a joint. When you damage a joint, you primarily damage the connective tissue in the joint which can leave that joint unstable for the rest of your life. When you break a bone, the bone heals stronger than it was before. Connective tissue has a history of poor healing. By bringing that joint back to its proper alignment, you allow the maximum healing to the soft tissue or connective tissue in that joint. And by maintaining that alignment over the long-term, you assure maximum results. Out of 50 or so outcome studies which have been published in the past 40 years. They nearly unanimously presented 30 to 50 percent of whiplash victims are left with some form of residual pain or dysfunction.
Our treatment goals are not only to make you feel better now, but to try to assure that 10 years from now your injuries will not be bothering you.

IN THE NEWS: Researchers Find Grave Downside to Sleeping More Than 8 Hours a Day It’s no secret that chronic sleep deprivation is taking its toll on America’s health, but a new study suggests that those who get more than ample sleep aren’t that safe either. Seemingly counterintuitive results reported in the Journal of the American Heart Association on Wednesday suggest that oversleeping might put you at higher risk for certain heart conditions. The study, conducted at Keele University, was a systematic review and meta-analysis of 74 existing studies — collectively covering three million patients — that investigated how sleep hours impacted overall health. Lead author and clinical lecturer in cardiology Chun Shing Kwok, Ph.D. and his team noted a link between consistently sleeping more than eight hours and the risk of all-cause mortality (dying of anything) and the risk of cardiovascular conditions. Those who consistently slept for ten hours had a 30 percent increase in their risk of all-cause mortality and a 49 percent increase in the risk of cardiovascular-related death, the team writes. “Sleep is complex and related to many factors such as lifestyle, occupation, caring needs for children and relatives as well as physical illness,” he adds. “Too much sleep may be related to conditions like obstructive sleep apnea and hypothyroidism.” Instead, sleeping longer than ten hours might be indicative of other problems that might give cardiologists concern, adds Brooke Aggarwal, Ph.D., a behavioral scientist and clinical health education specialist in the Division of Cardiology at Columbia University Medical Center who was not involved in the study. “Scientists are not totally sure if sleeping too much is a risk to health itself, or if it is simply a marker of increased risk, she tells Inverse.
WELLNESS: Surprising truth about exercise and better brain health When it comes to the physical and mental benefits of exercise, research has focused on the effects of consistent, long-term exercise routines. But an intriguing review shows that a single episode of exercising can offer substantial and immediate brain health dividends that promote mental clarity and improve cognition. (how cool is that?!) This review also highlighted results from steady exercise (over time) – with promising implications for preventing cognitive decline and protecting against Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. A wide range of mental functions are benefited, including attention, working memory, problem solving, cognitive flexibility, verbal fluency, decision making and inhibitory control. Mental processing speed also increases. And, positive effects from a single exercise session can last for up to two hours post-workout. Also (no surprise here), researchers reported that acute exercise had the effect of enhancing mood and decreasing stress. Acute exercise triggers neurochemical changes that affect large areas of the brain, impacting emotional states and relieving symptoms associated with mood and psychological disorders – such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia and more. In one study, 30 minutes of walking and running at 60 to 70 percent of VO2 max improved mood and cognition – results that were duplicated time and again by other studies. It’s no wonder that scientists say: ‘regular exercise is as effective as antidepressant medication in treating depression.’ No matter which type of exercise you choose, there’s one undeniable fact, physical activity is a potent therapeutic tool to address depression, alleviate anxiety and avoid significant cognitive decline.
CHIROPRACTIC: Research results: For Acute and Chronic Pain In a Randomized controlled trial, 183 patients with neck pain were randomly allocated to manual therapy (spinal mobilization), physiotherapy (mainly exercise) or general practitioner care (counseling, education and drugs) in a 52-week study. The clinical outcomes measures showed that manual therapy (chiropractic care) resulted in faster recovery than physiotherapy and general practitioner care. Moreover, the total costs of the manual therapy-treated patients were about one-third of the costs of physiotherapy or general practitioner care. Korthals-de Bos et al (2003), British Medical Journal “Patients with chronic low-back pain treated by chiropractors showed greater improvement and satisfaction at one month than patients treated by family physicians. Satisfaction scores were higher for chiropractic patients. A higher proportion of chiropractic patients (56 percent vs. 13 percent) reported that their low-back pain was better or much better, whereas nearly one-third of medical patients reported their low-back pain was worse or much worse.” Nyiendo et al (2000), Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics "Reduced odds of surgery were observed for...those whose first provider was a chiropractor. 42.7% of workers [with back injuries] who first saw a surgeon had surgery, in contrast to only 1.5% of those who saw a chiropractor." Keeney et al (2012), Spine “Acute and chronic chiropractic patients experienced better outcomes in pain, functional disability, and patient satisfaction; clinically important differences in pain and disability improvement were found for chronic patients.” “Cervical spine manipulation was associated with significant improvement in headache outcomes in trials involving patients with neck pain and/or neck dysfunction and headache.” McCrory, Penzlen, Hasselblad, Gray (2001), Duke Evidence Report “The results of this study show that spinal manipulative therapy is an effective treatment for tension headaches. . . Four weeks after cessation of treatment . . . the patients who received spinal manipulative therapy experienced a sustained therapeutic benefit in all major outcomes in contrast to the patients that received amitriptyline therapy, who reverted to baseline values.” Boline et al. (1995), Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics In a study funded by NIH’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine to test the effectiveness of different approaches for treating mechanical neck pain, 272 participants were divided into three groups that received either spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) from a doctor of chiropractic (DC), pain medication (over-the-counter pain relievers, narcotics and muscle relaxants) or exercise recommendations. After 12 weeks, about 57 percent of those who met with DCs and 48 percent who exercised reported at least a 75 percent reduction in pain, compared to 33 percent of the people in the medication group. After one year, approximately 53 percent of the drug-free groups continued to report at least a 75 percent reduction in pain; compared to just 38 percent pain reduction among those who took medication. IN THE NEWS: Keep Mosquitos away for good with these simple tricks There’s nothing like a summer night gathered around a campfire or hanging on the porch, enjoying the cool breeze after a long hot day. The only downside? Mosquitos! Those pesky bugs can easily ruin a fun summer night. There are a few unique hacks that can help your mosquito-blocking efforts even further. Remove water sources You may be surprised to know that having accessible water sources can stand as a threat to the number of mosquitos around your home. Why? Because mosquitos actually lay their eggs in standing or slow moving water. By cutting these water sources, you are cutting the number of mosquitos laying eggs around your home—and in return, having fewer mosquitos around the house in general. Use oil from lemon eucalyptus This may seem like a myth, but oil from lemon eucalyptus is actually recommended by multiple government sources as an insect repellent (including the Center for Disease Control and Prevention). It doesn’t just have to be DEET. If you’re looking for a more natural remedy to keep the mosquitos away, this oil will do the trick. Avoid scented body products Although some scents work as a repellent for mosquitoes, other body lotions or perfumes can actually attract these pests. The best thing to do is stay away from fancy smelling perfumes, colognes, body washes or lotions if you plan on spending time outside during high mosquito activity hours. These hours are typically dusk to dawn between April and October. Wear light clothing Not light in weight, although in the summer that is a given. But light-colored clothing. Turns out mosquitoes are attracted to darker colored materials. As for the length, if you can cover up, you should do so. Wearing long sleeves and pants will significantly reduce the number of mosquito bites you accumulate by the end of the evening.
WELLNESS: 3 Big Reasons to Choose Natural Cures and Natural Remedies Over Orthodox Medical Treatments... #1. Safety: It’s shocking to realize that over 200,000 people die in the U.S. each year from taking prescription medication. That’s right, over 200,000! Another 300,000 people die every year in hospitals as a result of medical negligence. That’s over half a million people each year (and these statistics are very conservative). So how many people die each year from using natural health remedies and alternative medicine... virtually zero! #2. Cheaper: Orthodox medical treatments can cost you a small fortune - private health insurance, the cost of medications, Medicare and doctor’s bills (even if you don’t pay for it directly, you pay for it in your taxes). Natural cures and natural remedies, on the other hand, are far cheaper. Especially if you grow some of the home remedies in your own garden! #3. They work better: Yes, it’s a fact. Natural remedies and cures work better than orthodox medical treatments. Why? Because they treat the underlying cause, not just the symptom. For instance, blood pressure drugs will lower your blood pressure (treat the symptom). But the underlying cause of your high blood pressure (mineral deficiency/pH imbalance) still continues on. If it’s not rectified, death can be the ultimate result! However, by using natural treatments and natural cures the root cause of the problem is addressed (lack of magnesium and vitamin D). So the “cure” will be real and permanent.
CHIROPRACTIC: THE CHIROPRACTIC APPROACH “Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline that emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.” Chiropractic is the second largest healing art in America and the world’s largest “natural” healing art. Because healthcare is so competitive there have been aggressive attempts to discredit chiropractic and to maintain a monopoly by some in the healthcare industry. Chiropractic has survived and thrived because as a chiropractic physician I offer something unique. It is been said, “To someone who only has a hammer everything looks like a nail”. Chiropractic takes a more holistic approach. We work at De-stressing and balancing the function of the nervous system, matching diet to a patient’s genetic makeup, balancing blood chemistry through nutritional therapy, working with the bodies detox pathways to help the body eliminate poisons along with other approaches. To try to help everyone get well using just one tool is an invitation for failure. One of the biggest problems in helping patients gain better health is the fact they don’t bring up certain issues because they didn’t realize we have tools for that. If your body is not functioning properly it’s important that you realize there is a cause for that. My biggest task, as a chiropractic physician, is to find the cause and fix the cause. If you or someone you know suffers from a chronic healthcare problem or chronic pain try chiropractic first.
FUNNY BONE: A woman was flying from Seattle to San Francisco. Unexpectedly, the plane was diverted to Sacramento along the way. The flight attendant explained that there would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted to get off the aircraft the plane would be re-boarded in 50 minutes... Everybody got off the plane except one lady who was blind.... A man had noticed her as he walked by and could tell the lady was blind because her guide dog lay quietly under the seat in front of her throughout the entire flight... He could also tell she had flown this very flight before because the pilot approached her, and calling her by name, said, "Kathy, we are in Sacramento for almost an hour, would you like to get off and stretch your legs?" The blind lady said, "No thanks, maybe Buddy would like to stretch his legs." All the people in the gate area came to a complete standstill when they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane with the guide dog for the blind! Even worse, the pilot was wearing sunglasses! People scattered. They not only tried to change planes, but they were trying to change airlines!

The Role of Vitamins and Minerals in Thyroid Disease
We all know that we should eat the right foods in order to obtain all the necessary vitamins to maintain good health. Lack of certain vitamins and minerals can cause thyroid deficiency and if you have thyroid deficiency, the vitamins you are taking in are unable to be processed properly.
Both Stephen Langer in his book Solved: 'The Riddle of Illness' and Dr Ridha Arem in his book 'The Thyroid Solution', tell us that people with thyroid problems should make sure they get enough vitamins, either by eating plenty of the foods containing these vitamins or by supplements. Many people now lead very busy lives and donít have time to eat properly. Many young woman miss meals altogether to lose weight without realising that this can cause problems for your thyroid. Even if you try and eat properly, by the time we purchase, prepare and cook everyday foods, most of the nutrients have disappeared and we believe supplements are essential to maintain a good thyroid. Lack of protein in a vegetarian diet of a thyroid deficient person can also cause problems. One thing doctors donít tend to do now, unless you go to an alternative therapist, is check you for vitamin and mineral deficiencies. You might be surprised to find that you are deficient in quite a few of these vitamins. We are hearing more and more that a lot of us are suffering from pernicious anaemia. Make sure you are checked for this next time you see your doctor.
Vitamin A (not carotene)
Carotene is a precursor of Vitamin A. An underactive thyroid gland cannot efficiently convert carotene to usable Vitamin A so however many carrots etc. you eat, it won't help. Vitamin A must also be accompanied by protein to make it available to the body, so if you are on a low protein diet, you may be deficient in this vitamin. If you are low on Vitamin A, your ability to produce TSH is limited. This vitamin is required by the body to convert T4 to T3. If you find that lights are too bright or night driving is a problem, try taking Vitamin A supplements along with more protein and see if it helps.
Vitamin B Complex
All the B vitamins are vital for good thyroid function but they all have a different role to play.
This vitamin is drastically needed if you have an overactive thyroid.
The lack of Vitamin B2 suppresses thyroid function in that the thyroid and adrenal glands fail to secrete their hormones
This is needed to keep all the body's cells (including the endocrine glands) in efficient working order.
Without this vitamin the thyroid cannot utilise its iodine raw material efficiently to make the hormones. This vitamin is needed even more by an overactive thyroid. Muscle weakness is very common in people with an overactive thyroid and in those who are also lacking in B6.
People with an underactive thyroid or people with no thyroid cannot absorb this vitamin. A serious lack of B12 can cause mental illness, various neurological disorders, neuralgia, neuritis and bursitis. Some doctors believe the "normal range" of B12 is too low and that the normal range should be at least 500 - 1,300pg/ml (rather than 200 - 1,100).
The thyroid gland needs this vitamin to keep it healthy. Long standing deficiency causes the thyroid gland to secrete too much hormone. People with an overactive thyroid need extra Vitamin C as this is actually drained from the tissues in their bodies.
It has been found that when people with an overactive thyroid take this vitamin, it counteracts the usual rapid excretion of calcium, and osteoporosis can be avoided.
Again, lack of this vitamin encourages the thyroid gland to secrete too much hormone, as well as too little TSH by the pituitary gland.
A higher intake of this vitamin is often needed by people with an overactive thyroid to counteract the large amounts of the vitamin depleted from the system.
Many of us consume too little calcium in the form of dairy products. This is needed to combat bone loss, especially important in overactive people. Dr. Arem recommends a supplementation of 1000 milligrams of elemental calcium (calcium carbonate) per day.
Magnesium is required for the conversion of T4 into T3 so this mineral should be supplemented.
Dr. Magovern tells us that some people lose Magnesium at a great rate through urination. Also it seems that a diet high in refined food and caffeine will encourage magnesium loss.
This is a crucial component of the enzyme that converts T4 to T3 in the body. Without it, T3 cannot be produced in the right amounts, and organs will function as if they were hypothyroid even though blood test levels are normal.
Research has shown that both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism result in zinc deficiency. It also plays a role in the functioning of the immune system. Low zinc levels have been found in obese people. Zinc is needed to convert T4 into T3, so this mineral is a must.
Proper Health starts with the correct acid-alkaline balance in your body. The pH level (acid - alkaline measurement) of our internal fluids affects every cell in our bodies. Extended acid imbalances of any kind can overwhelm your body, and lead to health complications.
Just as the body regulates its temperature in a rigid manner, so will it manage to preserve a very narrow pH range - especially in the blood. As a matter of fact, the body will go to such great lengths to maintain a blood pH of 7.365 that it will even create stress on other tissues, body systems, and organs to do so. Chronic acidity will interrupt all cellular activities and functions - it interferes with life itself.
When the pH of the body gets out of balance (too acidic), we may experience low energy, fatigue, excess weight, poor digestion, aches and pains, and even more serious disorders.
The cycle of acidity begins primarily as a result of three things:
1. Ingesting acids. Eating too many acidifying foods like processed sugar, meats, dairy, coffee, alcohol, etc. Create an acid ash in the body. These acids can overload the body's ability to neutralize them.
2. Creation of acids. Pathogens and microforms create acidifying toxins in the body. As the body becomes more and more acidic, bad bacteria, yeasts and other microforms proliferate in the body. Since these organisms are living, they eat as well as create resulting toxins. These toxins are often very acidifying.
3. Improper elimination of acids. Not all acids are the same; some are weak and some are strong. Weak acids like citric acid are much easier to neutralize than strong acids like uric acid. The body uses many systems in order to buffer acids including breath, mineral reserves, and fat. When the body's buffering systems become compromised, excess acids build up.
The process of reestablishing acid-alkaline balance begins with proper diet and nutrition. This includes eating alkalizing foods (vegetables, low sugar fruits, etc.), super hydration (drinking plenty of alkaline water), and proper supplementation.
Keeping yourself BALANCED is your first line of defense in fighting any disease and alkaline water creates a major impact in balancing the body's pH.
A body that is too acidic provides the ideal environment for diseases to manifest and thrive in. For example, accumulated acid waste in the joints encourages inflammation and arthritis. It turns acidic wastes into solids and stores them in fatty tissues resulting in hardening of the arteries and excess weight. Our body also tries to buffer the effect of this excess acid by taking calcium from the bones, and magnesium needed for heart health.
Therefore, one of the keys to great health is keeping the body pH properly balanced. Because of the predominance of hydroxyl ions produced, making the water highly alkaline, drinking plenty of alkaline water will help dissolves accumulated acid waste and will balance your body pH.
Restoring the pH balance in the body.
Alkaline water can neutralize the acidity of the body caused by stress, modern diet, air pollution, and many bottled waters.
- A higher pH in the body reduces the need for fat and cholesterol to protect the body from damaging acids.
- Alkaline water is negatively charged and an "antioxidant." Antioxidants reduce cellular and DNA damage caused by free radicals. Negatively charged alkaline water creates energy by giving up ions to positive ions.
- Alkaline water tastes lighter with a pleasantly sweet flavor.
- Improves the body's absorption of essential nutrients
- Improves body function by cleaning your cells from the inside out.
- Using water with a higher pH level improves the taste of beverages and food.
- Improves your immune system function to help you fight diseases.
- Cooking with alkaline water improves the taste and quality of foods and using acidic water when boiling eggs improves their quality
Understanding pH Values
For those not familiar with pH scales:
Pure acid is pH 0
Pure alkaline is pH 14
Neutral (neither acid nor alkaline) is pH 7
pH 7 is ten times more alkaline than pH 6
pH 8 is 100 times more alkaline than pH 6
pH 9 is 1,000 times ore alkaline than pH 6
How much do I drink?
Your water needs are based on your body weight. Half your body weight is your cleansing dose and 80% of that is your minimum because otherwise you're dehydrated.
100 pound person, 50 ounces is their cleansing dose and 40 ounces is a minimum of fluids they should drink every day.
How much alkaline water should I drink? That depends on your pH. We carry very sensitive pH paper for determining your urine pH which is the pH we base your need for alkaline water on. If you're a vegetarian and your pH is already alkaline then you can just drink regular filtered water. But if your pH is lower than 6.4 then you need to drink alkaline water. I would recommend 1 L a day minimum. Depending on your weight more might be indicated.
How alkaline of water should I drink? Water can come from about 7.8 to 10. You can drink water that is to alkaline for you and it is best to be tested at our office to determine the best pH. Waters with a pH of 9 to 9.5 tend to test the best, but your situation might be different.
Both saliva and urine pH should be 6.4. When you maintain that then your blood and cells will be able to maintain the pH that is right for them. Saliva pH indicate your digestive pH whereas urine pH indicates your body pH. So for determining your need for alkaline water urine pH is the one to watch. Also it is recommended not to drink alkaline water with meals. If you're going to drink water with a meal I recommend squeezing several lemon or lime slices in the water to make it acidic. Lemon and lime will be alkaline on your body yet acid in your stomach.
I don't keep up with drug sales let alone the actions and side effects of all the latest drugs. But I would think antacids must be making pharmaceutical companies literally billions of dollars each year. (The January 8, 2001 issue of Business Week mentions that Priolsec is the top selling prescription drug in the world. It earns Astra Zeneca (the drug’s maker) 6 billion dollars per year.)
One of the reasons that antacids sell so well is that they stop the pain in 60-70% of the cases. (A recent online survey of over 4200 patients taking Priolosec.) If you're troubled with chronic acid reflux and you can take a pill and all the pain just disappears, it seems like you're doing the right thing, doesn't it? Before you answer that let me explain the digestive process and then ask you that question again.
Digestion is literally a miracle. All the different types of foods and yet your body knows the exact enzymes and the correct amount to properly breakdown each food to its simplest component. Complex carbohydrates are broken down into simple sugars, proteins are broken down into their individual amino acids and fats and oils are reduced to their individual fatty acids. And then the process of properly absorbing these nutrients along with the vitamins, minerals and enzymes plus other things that were still learning about. If you eat different foods you get different kinds and amounts of enzymes to digest them.
As you chew your food you help break it down for your stomach as well as blend it with saliva which helps start the whole process. As the food enters the stomach it starts to churn and release digestive enzymes. Hydrocloric acid (HCl) is one of the most important enzymes that the stomach releases. The amount of HCl that leaves the stomach with the food entering the small intestines stimulate fluids from the liver and gallbladder as well as enzymes from the pancreas to complete the digestive process. It is essential that the right amount of HCl enters the small intestines to begin a wavelike motion called peristalsis that help move the food throughout the intestines. If the level of HCl is less than ideal then every other step in the digestive process is compromised.
It's like when you have a row of dominos stacked together and push the first one over a chain reaction happens. Without HCl the rest of the digestive process is severely compromised. If you don't produce the right amount of enzymes then you cannot breakdown your foods properly. If you don’t break your foods down properly you can not absorbe nutrients that your body requires. Studies of individuals who have used antacids over a long peiord of time find evidence of malnutrition. Doesn't that make sense? What do antacids do? They severely reduced if not completely block the release of HCl. Remember the chain of dominos.
When you consistently reduced the amount of HCl that is released from your stomach that causes a series of changes in the lining of your stomach. A healthy stomach has a mucous lining that protects the stomach from its own acids. When the body senses that this coating has been reduced it automatically reduces the amount of HCl it secretes. As this happens the stomach will churn more to help break down the foods. After a series of processes, this increase of abnormal stomach contractions can force what little bit of HCl you produce up into the esophagus.
This can cause a burning or painful sensation from your stomach up into the back of your throat. This is called acid reflux. This condition is rarely due to the overproduction of HCl. If this problem is not corrected over a lifetime the chronic inflammation to the cells can lead to cancer. But be forewarned, the chronic suppression of HCl with antacids will lead to incompletely digested food irritating your intestines and increasing your chance for colon cancer. Usually the mechanism I described above is leading to the inappropriate release of HCl into the esophagus. It is true eliminating the amount of HCl you produce will relieve symptoms. It's also true that these drugs will relieve you of the normal digestive process.
Now the main question is this- is the choice between symptom relieve with drugs or suffering pain with each meal? No! By properly correcting the dysfunction within the digestive system you can, not only restore proper function without drugs, you can also overcome your acid reflux.
There are several principles to good digestion. Completely chewing your food, not combining proteins with sweet fruits, don't eat too quickly, eat foods that are consistent with your body and blood type, too much dairy with a meal could interfere with the digestive process and watch the junk food. Fiber helps move the food through your digestive system.
A lot of time patients with digestive problems also notice that they have discomfort between the shoulder blades. Neurologically this is very significant. The nerves between the fourth thoracic and eight thoracic are some of the most important controlling nerves to your digestive system. If you carry nerve pressure in your upper back then your digestive system is most likely compromised. Now remember, you can have nerve pressure without back symptoms, though alot of patients with acid reflux know what I'm talking about when I talk about discomfort between their shoulder blades.
B-vitamins are very important when it comes to digestion and because you can't store B-vitamins. A good percentage of patients with digestive problems also have deficiencies in some of their B-vitamins. We also use targeted nutritional formulas to help restore the normal lining of the stomach along with diet and Chiropractic adjustments.
The care I just outlined for acid reflux is also extremely beneficial from most other digestive problems. Chiropractic care is the most effective treatment on the planet for digestive disorders. Most other approaches, even with gastroenterologists, focus primarily on symptom relieve and not correction.
Now let me ask you that question again and tell me if you might have a different answer. If you're troubled with chronic acid reflux and you can take a pill and all the pain just disappears, it seems like you're doing the right thing, doesn't it? Are you?

IN THE NEWS:. WALKING SLOWLY IS AN INDICATOR OF DEMENTIA BROUGHT ON BY BRAIN SHRINKAGE, SCIENTISTS DISCOVER FOR THE FIRST TIME Scientists have long believed that a slower walking pace in older people may be linked to dementia. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over one million by 2025. This will soar to two million by 2051. Now a team of researchers have identified the changes in the brain which explain why. They discovered that people who developed slowed walking show a shrinkage of their right hippocampus. This area of the brain, which is similar in shape to a seahorse, is primarily associated with memory and the ability to maintain posture. The findings suggest dementia could be treated earlier if doctors regularly measure the walking speeds of older patients and watch for changes over time. That's according to a 14-year study carried out by experts at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.
WELLNESS: EXPLORING HEALTHY DRINKS Green Tea The Benefit: Helps reduce risk of osteoporosis, cancer, heart disease, and cavities. Green tea contains a rich concentration of flavonoids and polyphenols, natural antioxidants that may protect cells from carcinogens (cancer-causing substances) and inhibit tumor growth by helping to neutralize free radicals in the body. The tea's antioxidants may also guard against heart disease by relaxing blood vessels, inhibiting the formation of blood clots that trigger heart attacks and strokes. Green tea also contains fluoride, which strengthens teeth; the flavonoids may build up bones as well, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and tooth decay. Mint Tea the Benefit: Eases cramps and helps ward off indigestion. "Mint is an antispasmodic, so it can relax muscles, which combats stiffness and aches," says Susan Lark, MD, author of The Chemistry of Success (Bay Books, 1999). CHIROPRACTIC: WHAT’S THIS TINGLING IN MY LEG? When you think of low back pain, you may visualize a person half-bent over with their hand on the sore spot of their back. Since many of us have experienced low back pain during our lifetime, we can usually relate to a personal experience and recall how limited we were during the acute phase of our last LBP episode. However, when the symptoms associated with LBP are different, such as tingling or a shooting pain down one leg, it can be both confusing and worrisome – hence the content of this month’s article! Let’s look at the anatomy of the low back to better understand where these symptoms originate. In the front of the spine (or the part more inside of the body), we have the big vertebral bodies and shock absorbing disks that support about 80% of our weight. At the back of each vertebrae you’ll find the spinous and transverse processes that connect to the muscles and ligaments in the back to the spine. Between the vertebral body and these processes are the tiny boney pieces called the pedicles. The length of the pedicle partially determines the size of the holes where the nerves exit the spine. When the pedicles are short (commonly a genetic cause), the exiting nerves can be compressed due to the narrowed opening. This is called foraminal spinal stenosis. This compression usually occurs later in life when osteoarthritis and/or degenerative disk disease further crowds these “foramen” where the nerves exit the spine. Similarly, short pedicles can narrow the “central canal” where the spinal cord travels up and down the spine from the brain. Later in life, the combined effects of the narrow canal plus disk bulging, osteoarthritic spurs, and/or thickening or calcification of ligaments can add up to “central spinal stenosis.” The symptoms associated with spinal stenosis (whether it’s foraminal or central) include difficulty walking due to a gradual increase in tingling, heavy, crampy, achy and/or sore feeling in one or both legs. The tingling in the legs associated with spinal stenosis is called “neurogenic claudication” and must be differentiated from “vascular claudication”, which feels similar but is caused from lack of blood flow to the leg(s) as opposed to nerve flow. At a younger age, tingling in the legs can be caused by either a bulging or herniated lumbar disk or it can be referred pain from a joint – usually a facet or sacroiliac joint. The main difference in symptoms between nerve vs. joint leg tingling symptoms is that nerve pinching from a deranged disk is located in a specific area in the leg such as the inside or outside of the foot. In other words, the tingling can be traced fairly specifically in the leg. Tingling from a joint is often described as a deep, “inside the leg,” generalized achy-tingling that can affect the whole leg and/or foot or it may stop at the knee, but it’s more difficult to describe by the patient as it’s less geographic or specific in its location. Chiropractic management of all these conditions offers a non-invasive, effective form of non-surgical, non-drug care and is the recommended in LBP guidelines as an option when treating these conditions.

(CNN)Gulping down an artificially sweetened beverage not only may be associated with health risks for your body, but also possibly your brain, a new study suggests.
Artificially sweetened drinks, such as diet sodas, were tied to a higher risk of stroke and dementia in the study, which published in the American Heart Association's journal Stroke on Thursday.
The study sheds light only on an association, as the researchers were unable to determine an actual cause-and-effect relationship between sipping artificially sweetened drinks and an increased risk for stroke and dementia. Therefore, some experts caution that the findings should be interpreted carefully.
No connection was found between those health risks and other sugary beverages, such as sugar-sweetened sodas, fruit juice and fruit drinks.
Are diet sodas dangerous to your health?
"We have little data on the health effects of diet drinks and this is problematic because diet drinks are popular amongst the general population," said Matthew Pase, a senior research fellow in the department of neurology at Boston University School of Medicine and lead author of the new study.
"More research is needed to study the health effects of diet drinks so that consumers can make informed choices concerning their health," he said.
The new study involved data on 2,888 adults older than 45 and 1,484 adults older than 60 from the town of Framingham, Massachusetts. The data came from the Framingham Heart Study, a project of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and Boston University.
In the older-than-45 group, the researchers measured for stroke and in the older-than-60 group, they measured for dementia.
"The sample sizes are different because we studied people of different ages," Pase said. "Dementia is rare in people under the age of 60 and so we focused only on those aged over 60 years for dementia. Similarly, stroke is rare in people aged under 45 and so we focused on people older than age 45 for stroke."
The researchers analyzed how many sugary beverages and artificially sweetened soft drinks each person in the two different age groups drank, at different time points, between 1991 and 2001. Then, they compared that with how many people suffered stroke or dementia over the next 10 years.
Compared to never drinking artificially sweetened soft drinks, those who drank one a day were almost three times as likely to have an ischemic stroke, caused by blocked blood vessels, the researchers found.
They also found that those who drank one a day were nearly three times as likely to be diagnosed with dementia.
Those who drank one to six artificially sweetened beverages a week were 2.6 times as likely to experience an ischemic stroke but were no more likely to develop dementia, Pase said.
"So, it was not surprising to see that diet soda intake was associated with stroke and dementia. I was surprised that sugary beverage intake was not associated with either the risks of stroke or dementia because sugary beverages are known to be unhealthy," Pase said.
In response, Lauren Kane, a spokeswoman for the American Beverage Association, issued a statement from the group that said low-calorie sweeteners found in beverages have been proven safe by worldwide government safety authorities.
"The FDA, World Health Organization, European Food Safety Authority and others have extensively reviewed low-calorie sweeteners and have all reached the same conclusion -- they are safe for consumption," the statement said.
"While we respect the mission of these organizations to help prevent conditions like stroke and dementia, the authors of this study acknowledge that their conclusions do not -- and cannot -- prove cause and effect. And according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), many risk factors can increase an individual's likelihood of developing stroke and dementia including age, hypertension, diabetes and genetics. NIH does not mention zero calorie sweeteners as a risk factor," the statement said. "America's beverage companies support and encourage balanced lifestyles by providing people with a range of beverage choices — with and without calories and sugar — so they can choose the beverage that is right for them."
Separate previous studies have shown an association between the intake of sugar-sweetened beverages and adverse health effects, such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease, stroke, and possibly even heart failure.
"This article provides further evidence though on artificially sweetened beverages and their possible effects on vascular health, including stroke and dementia," said Dr. Ralph Sacco, professor and chair of neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, about the new study.
Sacco was a co-author of an editorial published alongside the study in the journal Stroke on Thursday.
"We believe the pathways of which artificially sweetened beverages would affect the brain are probably through vascular mechanisms," Sacco said.
"When the authors controlled for hypertension and diabetes and obesity the effects diminish, which implies that some of the effects of artificially sweetened beverages could still be going through a vascular pathway," he said about the new study. "Many strokes are caused by hardening of arteries; and the risk of dementia is also increased by the hardening of arteries in large and small vessels. So, I believe the mechanisms may be through vascular disease, though we can't prove it."
Heather Snyder, senior director of medical and scientific operations at the Alzheimer's Association, called the new study "a piece of a larger puzzle" when it comes to better understanding how your diet and behaviors impact your brain.
"It's actually really more of your overall diet and overall lifestyle that is linked to cardiovascular disease and diabetes risk, and we do know that heart disease and diabetes are linked to an increased risk of dementia," said Snyder, who was not involved in the new study.
"We know that sugary and artificially sweetened beverages are not great for us. This study adds strength to that, and also says they may not be great for your brain, specifically," she said. "There are alternatives -- things we can all do everyday to keep our brains and our bodies as healthy as we can as we age." Alternatives such as regular cardiovascular exercise that elevates heart rate and increases blood flow and doing puzzles and games to activate and challenge the mind. These are recommendations from the Alzheimer's Associations list of 10 lifestyle habits to reduce risk of cognitive decline.

IN THE NEWS: Healthy living could prevent half of deaths from cancer Following a healthy lifestyle — which includes maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly and refraining from smoking — may prevent cancer, a new study finds. Healthy lifestyle choices could potentially prevent 20 to 40 percent of cancer cases and about half of cancer deaths, the study found. The new findings, however, "provide strong support for the argument that a large proportion of cancers are to due environmental factors and can be prevented by lifestyle modification," the authors of the new study, Dr. Mingyang Song, a research fellow in epidemiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, and Dr. Edward Giovannucci, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, wrote in their paper. The researchers found that women in the high-risk group were 25 percent more likely to get cancer and 48 percent more likely to die from cancer during the study period than the women in the low-risk group. Men in the high-risk group were 33 percent more likely to get cancer and 44 percent more likely to die of cancer than the men in the low-risk group, according to the study.

Shirataki noodles are made from glucomannan fiber, which can aid with weight loss, reduce blood sugar and insulin levels, lower cholesterol, and help relieve constipation. This viscous fiber is fermented by gut microbes. Byproducts include short-chain fatty acids that calibrate your immune system and serve as substrate to produce ketones that efficiently fuel your mitochondria.
CONDITION OF THE WEEK: Hidden fears and brain function Sometimes brain function is inhibited by hidden fears. You might just sense that as stress when you try to balance your checkbook, remember things, or going places. Our brains can have misfiring circuits that cause issues under certain circumstances. For instance you might have a problem reading in front of people or remembering someone's name. Yet when you're alone those issues don't appear to be present or under some other type of circumstance they might not be an issue. That's because our brains can shut down when we fire up a faulty circuit due to past forgotten traumas. Emotional freedom technique can help eliminate these faulty circuits and allow for better brain function. Emotional freedom technique can also help eliminate certain fears or phobias that you are aware that you have. If you are dealing with any issue where you don't believe that your brain is functioning at peak performance then discuss that on your next visit and we can determine if emotional freedom technique might benefit you.

Without sleep your body will break down pretty quickly. One of the things patients tell us once they first start getting adjusted is that they sleep better. Tension within the nervous system can disrupt sleep. There is also other factors like exposing yourself to a computer screen, iPod or cell phone right before you go to sleep. For some people this disrupts their melatonin output and can disrupt sleep. For those people any amount of light can be a problem and so ordering blackout screens from places like Amazon can be helpful. Sometimes relaxing music or nature sounds can improve sleep. We have included some supplements in this post that can help you sleep.
I've listed products that can help you get a better nights sleep.

Breaking the code of disease
Part of the challenge that any doctor has is trying to understand and to help a patient with a certain condition. In chiropractic and natural healthcare we take a totally different approach in treating our patients. Instead of using drugs that just suppress symptoms, at a cost of sometimes serious side effects, chiropractors try to focus on the underlying cause.
As a patient you might think that in healthcare there is a understanding of the cause for most disease, but you would be wrong. In our society most diseases are just suppressed not corrected. In natural healthcare and chiropractic we don't use suppressive drugs so we must try to understand the root cause in order to help the patient get well.
So what do we do if the cause is not generally recognized or understood? That's where we have to break the code of disease to try to get to the root cause. There are a number of diseases that most doctors would say we don't understand the cause yet chiropractic helps on a regular basis. That's because most doctors don't work with nutritional therapy, energy medicine or chiropractic adjustments.
To give you an example let's look at acid reflux which is a major problem in our society. The predominant approach is just to suppress acid production but of course this does not address the cause or offer a solution for the problem. In natural healthcare we understand the complexities of the digestive system and how it's impacted through the hormonal system, through emotions, through toxicity etc. so instead of writing a prescription that might turn off your acid production and thus compromise normal digestion, we have to unravel the cause in each patient's special circumstances. In natural healthcare/chiropractic one size doesn't fit all.
Besides standard tools like lab work, x-ray or physical exam we utilize a biofeedback technique that we call "Vega testing". This allows us, in many cases, to unravel the underlying cause of a given condition for each patient. For instance let's talk about chronic fatigue syndrome it's been my experience that what works for one patient doesn't necessarily work for the next. But with the understanding the body can heal itself and working with the body's intelligence we can usually unravel the hidden code for a particular condition.
We have discovered that not only can you be deficient in certain nutrients you can also be deficient in certain vibratory rates like sound or light (color). Your body is an electrical system, a chemical system and the mechanical system. And each of these systems can be the cause or part of the cause for your condition.
Let me give you an example: back in the 80s the diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome was first presented. Even today the consensus is that we don't understand what causes chronic fatigue syndrome. There's more than enough theories on the cause but there is no definitive cause presented. Yet we have gotten very good results by taking each patient as an individual and unraveling the code of their particular condition by investigation of electrical/chemical/mechanical systems and addressing the faults we find in each.
Do you or a family member or friend suffer from any chronic condition? Tell someone about chiropractic today. Natural healthcare is the fastest growing system in healthcare today. First of all it's safe and effective.

IN THE NEWS: BREAST EXAMS The American Cancer Society, which has for years taken the most aggressive approach to screening, issued new guidelines on Tuesday, recommending that women with an average risk of breast cancer start having mammograms at 45 and continue once a year until 54, then every other year for as long as they are healthy and likely to live another 10 years. The changes reflect increasing evidence that mammography is imperfect, that it is less useful in younger women, and that it has serious drawbacks, like false-positive results that lead to additional testing, including biopsies. Thermography is a lesser known, but increasingly popular screening test that works by imaging thermal patterns on the skin. A doesn’t do the same thing as a mammogram. It doesn’t “see” tumors. It is a physiologic test measuring subtle differences in skin temperature that can be associated with an underlying tumor (as well as other pathology).Thermogram has some advantages that a mammogram doesn’t, including the ability to detect physiologic changes in a cancer while it’s still in the cellular phase—sometimes years before it is detectable mammographically. Thermography can also detect lymphatic congestion and hormonal imbalances as well as monitor dietary changes. It can assess breast cancer risk, which is also something mammography cannot do. In short, thermography is a tool to monitor breast health, not just a way to find disease.

The risks of surgery include scarring leading to other surgeries, two out of every thousand surgeries end in death, most lumbar surgery patients are not able to return to the type of work they had before. Studies of chiropractic care show in 80 to 90% recovery rate without the risk of surgery. Zero deaths with chiropractic care, no risk of scarring or muscle weakness and most patients can return to work twice as fast at a fraction of the cost of surgery. When chiropractic care is compared to medical care chiropractic is found to be twice as effective at half the cost.

IN THE NEWS: Skip the anti-bacterial soap: regular suds work just as well Regular soap is just as effective as anti-bacterial soap at getting rid of germs through hand washing, a new study finds. This is hardly the first study to find no difference between the two types of soap, but it is the first to test regular and anti-bacterial soaps against 20 strains of bacteria in a lab, the researchers said. The investigators also tested the soaps on people's dirty hands. Today, manufacturers add triclosan to an array of products, including toothpaste, shampoo, clothing, kitchenware, furniture and toys, with the goal of reducing or preventing bacterial contamination and growth, the researchers said. However, triclosan has been linked to several negative effects on health. Research has tied it to antibiotic resistance among germs, and allergies and hormone disruption in people. One study even found that long-term exposure to triclosan might cause cancer in mice.
WELLNESS: Controlling blood sugar may help prevent dementia, study finds Controlling blood-sugar levels may help prevent dementia, a study released on Tuesday showed, offering hope to patients with diabetes that keeping glucose levels in check might reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and other types of cognitive impairments. Studying 350,000 patients with Type 2 diabetes, researchers at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden found that those with poor blood-sugar control had a 50% higher risk of being admitted to hospital than those with good control. CONDITION OF THE WEEK: HEART AND NATURAL HEALTH CARE Studies show chiropractic care can help with heart health, including lowering systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Adjustments to the cervical spine can also lower heart rate. Interference with cervical nerves can affect a variety of health conditions, especially those associated with the heart. Nutritional therapy can clean out the arteries and reduce the inflammation that causes heart disease. There is no drug on the market that can outperform nutritional therapy for heart problems. Think chiropractic first, drug second, surgery last.
FUNNY BONE: A Mexican bandit made a specialty of crossing the Rio Grande from time to time and robbing banks in Texas. Finally, a reward was offered for his capture, and an enterprising Texas ranger decided to track him down. After a lengthy search, he traced the bandit to his favorite cantina, snuck up behind him, put his trusty six-shooter to the bandit's head, and said, "You're under arrest. Tell me where you hid the loot or I'll blow your brains out." But the bandit didn't speak English, and the Ranger didn't speak Spanish. Fortunately, a bilingual lawyer was in the saloon and translated the Ranger's message. The terrified bandit blurted out, in Spanish, that the loot was buried under the oak tree in back of the cantina. "What did he say?" asked the Ranger. The lawyer answered, "He said 'Get lost, you turkey. You wouldn't dare shoot me.'"

Dirty air, dirty water, pollution and toxins in our food and environment. We live in the toxic world. But have you heard of dirty electricity. We are surrounded today by electronics and in fact a lot of us carry electronics on our body most of the time. Cell phones, tablet computers and music devices, we live in electromagnetic soup. And for some of us that can mean a significant impact on our health. If you are a electro-hypersensitive person you could be suffering from a host of symptoms and diseases because of that.
Just like a person with environmental allergies you could have significant problems with an elevated pollen count, people with electromagnetic sensitivities are surrounded by dirty electricity. If you don't have allergies and a high pollen count might not affect you, the same goes with dirty electricity though I believe were all affected to some degree because we have electromagnetic systems in our body. Our brain is electromagnetic marvel and to think all the electromagnetic fields around us don't have any effect is probably naïve.
It's kind of like smoking, not all people who smoke get lung cancer. In a 2006 European study, the risk of developing lung cancer was: 0.2% for men who never smoked (0.4% for women) 5.5% for male former smokers (2.6% in women) 15.9% for current male smokers (9.5% for women) 24.4% for male “heavy smokers” defined as smoking more than 5 cigarettes per day (18.5% for women). Some might get chronic bronchitis, heart disease or increased pain levels.
The same goes with dirty electricity here is a list of some of the symptoms that you can have if you electromagnetic sensitive: Neurological: headaches, dizziness, nausea, difficulty concentrating, memory loss, irritability, depression, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, weakness, tremors, muscle spasms, numbness, tingling, altered reflexes, muscle and joint pain, leg/foot pain, "Flu-like" symptoms, fever. More severe reactions can include seizures, paralysis, psychosis and stroke. Cardiac: palpitations, arrhythmias, pain or pressure in the chest, low or high blood pressure, slow or fast heart rate, shortness of breath. Respiratory: sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma. Dermatological: skin rash, itching, burning, facial flushing. Ophthalmologic: pain or burning in the eyes, pressure in/behind the eyes, deteriorating vision, floaters, cataracts. Others: digestive problems; abdominal pain; enlarged thyroid, testicular/ovarian pain; dryness of lips, tongue, mouth, eyes; great thirst; dehydration; nosebleeds; internal bleeding; altered sugar metabolism; immune abnormalities; redistribution of metals within the body; hair loss; pain in the teeth; deteriorating fillings; impaired sense of smell; ringing in the ears. How does this happen? The body is an electrical being. Every cell, tissue, and organ transmits information through tiny electrical currents which are disturbed by these high frequency fields, setting the body up for disease.
An example of how dirty electricity is created stems from how cell phone towers utilize energy. The towers operate on direct current. However, the electrical current supplied to the tower is in the form of an alternating current; therefore, the supply needs to be changed or converted. This is accomplished using an inverter. Inverters interrupt the alternating current and are a source of dirty electricity. This dirty electricity is put back into the power supply lines, which in turn, can enter a building through their electrical wiring.
In,DIRTY ELECTRICITY Dr. Milham discusses the recent proliferation of radio frequency radiation from cell phones and towers, terrestrial antennas, Wi-Fi and Wi-max systems, broadband internet over power lines, and personal electronic equipment and warns of the epidemic of disease and mortality that we may soon face because of these technologies. These technologies, he explains, are creating the 2nd wave of illnesses from electromagnetic fields, the first being from electrification beginning in the early part of the 20th century and only recently discovered thanks to Dr. Milham’s work.

“Sensitivity to electromagnetic radiation is the emerging health problem of the 21st century. It is imperative health practitioners, governments, schools and parents learn more about it. The human health stakes are significant”.

There must be an end to the pervasive nonchalance, indifference and lack of heartfelt respect for the plight of these persons. It is clear something serious has happened and is happening.
“Grounding,” also called “Earthing” is the landmark discovery that Earth’s subtle surface energy field upholds the electrical stability of our bodies; thus serving as a foundation for vitality and health. In an age of rampant chronic disease due to the stresses of modern day lifestyle, reconnecting with the Earth’s energy beneath our feet provides a way back to better health. The profound effect of Grounding provides amazing healing, calming and balancing effects on the physical, mental and emotional bodies. Throughout history, humans have walked barefoot on the ground, which naturally discharges and prevents the buildup of electrical stress. When in contact with the Earth, this tranquil energy naturally transfers to any conductive object—whether it is a metal rod, a wire, a tree or plant, an animal, or a barefoot human—and they become “grounded.”
I will give you TWO websites that you can visit for materials to help you reconnect to the Earth's healthy magnetic field. Any time that you're in a body of water like an ocean or Lake you will have a grounding experience. Barehanded gardening or walking barefoot can help discharged the dirty electricity and rebalance your body's electrical system. That can be why some people are addicted to gardening OR yard work because it reconnects them to the Earth's magnetic field. You can sleep on grounded material that you can purchase from: http://www.lessemf.com. http://www.earthing.com . You can have grounding straps on your shoe. You can insert a grounding stake in your yard and run a grounding wire into your house or you can use a special grounding cord that you plug into an outlet and utilize the ground from your electrical system in the house.
But for individuals that have sleep disorders or issues like anxiety and depression you should definitely consider sleeping with your head on grounding material.
For more information on grounding our dirty electricity you can Google those terms and find multiple websites in videos on the subject. When it comes to grounding OR earthing I would suggest you type in electrical grounding to skip over all the esoteric and psyche websites on "spiritual grounding".

IN THE NEWS: Most countries woefully unprepared to fight resistant superbugs, says WHO Only 34 countries have national plans to fight the global threat of antibiotic resistance, meaning few are prepared to tackle "superbug" infections which put even basic healthcare at risk, the WHO said on Wednesday. In a survey of government plans to tackle the issue, the World Health Organization said only a quarter of the 133 countries that responded were addressing the problem. NOTE: because the medical profession could not control the use of antibiotics by their doctors they have developed a large population of bacteria that have learned a resistance against pharmaceutical antibiotics. If you’re used to using natural healthcare for infections you have nothing to worry about. Other than the fact these bacteria are not vulnerable to pharmaceutical antibiotics a healthy body can easily eliminate these. Natural healthcare enhances your own body’s immune system to eliminate these organisms.
WELLNESS: Acetaminophen, A Poor Choice for Relieving Your Low Back Pain Acetaminophen is the most popular pain reliever in the U.S., accounting for an estimated 27 billion annual doses as of 2009. With 100,000-plus hospital visits a year by users, it's also the most likely to be taken inappropriately. In fact, improper use, coupled with the drug's narrow safety margin, means "a large fraction of users [are] close to a toxic dose in the ordinary course of use," according to the Food and Drug Administration. But for the sake of discussion, let's ignore the safety issues for a moment. Is acetaminophen an effective pain reliever in the first place? Not for low back pain and pain attributable to knee / hip osteoarthritis. Painkillers are the number one cause for death among pharmaceutical drugs. Pain is your body’s signal that something’s wrong and turning that signal off is not only dangerous in the short term but because you allow a condition time to progress that could have increased dangers in long-term. Chiropractic seeks the cause and then corrects the cause. Be smart, choose chiropractic first.
CONDITION OF THE WEEK: Skin problems Many people don’t realize that chiropractic and natural healthcare can offer a solution to most skin problems. Unlike using antibiotics or steroids to suppress a skin condition we look for the underlying cause and work at correcting that. Simply not drinking enough water and thus not eliminating toxins through the normal channels your skin can be an avenue of trying to eliminate toxins and thus causing skin irritations. Colon problems, kidney problems, allergies, bacterial or fungal infections are just some of the issues that could be behind skin conditions. Don’t cover it up, fix it. Chiropractic works.
FUNNY BONE: The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note and posted on the Apple tray: "Take only one. God is watching." Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples."

The official way to measure stomach pH is to start with the stomach empty so only fluid remains in the stomach. Stomach fluid is removed through a tube that is inserted into the stomach through the esophagus (food pipe).
An easier way to approach this to get a “relative” stomach pH is to use pH paper to test your saliva. Normal saliva pH should be 6.4 as the pH of the stomach goes up and down the saliva will change in its pH as well.
You can demonstrate this on yourself by checking your pH and then consuming a meal and recheck your pH over the next hour. You should notice that your pH becomes alkaline right away as the acid in the stomach is being diluted by the food. In most cases it takes 30 minutes to an hour before your pH returns to the pre-meal state. If it takes longer for your pH to return to normal that suggest a weakness in the digestive process. Even though this test doesn’t give you an exact stomach pH it will give you a functional pH significant enough to tell you how your digestive process is doing.
To do proper pH testing on the body it’s important to have pH paper that is sensitive to subtle changes. The common pH paper that’s found in the drugstore is usually not sensitive enough to do proper body pH testing. Some papers only test every .5 in the pH scale you want to paper that tests every .2 in the pH scale. Your urine and saliva pH should be 6.4 under normal circumstances during the day. The exceptions to this is that your urine pH becomes concentrated overnight and tends to be more acid. And so if you want an accurate urine pH it’s best to check it sometime after your first morning void. Then the pH should be 6.4 any other time that you tested it unless you’re having an allergy reaction which would tend to make it more acidic.
Your saliva as we mentioned earlier will become more alkaline right after a meal. So the best time to check your saliva pH is either before you eat or more than an hour after you eat.
By checking your saliva pH every 30 minutes after a meal can reveal subtle problems with the digestive process. If it takes more than an hour for your saliva pH to return to its pre-meal state then that suggest a weak digestive system.
The problem in the digestive system causing your saliva pH to be off could be anywhere within the digestive track and so an evaluation is necessary to find the source of the problem. We recommend that if you start a meal at a pH 7 or higher that you take enzymes both before and after that meal. Most enzymes are best taken at the end of a meal unless their vegetable-based enzymes. The idea is that you want your digestive system to do as much as it can and then just supplement it to help improve a more thorough breakdown of your foods.
Undigested food is an irritant to your colon. This is why chronic use of antacids are so dangerous not only because they put undigested food which is an irritant to the lining of the colon but they also allow microorganisms that would normally be killed in the upper digestive track. HCl helps purify your food as well as breaking it down. So chronic use of antacids would deprive you of essential nutrients from the foods that you eat. And since minerals are metal they will be the first of the nutrients that you will start noticing deficiencies from. But other elements like B-12 are classically found low in people who use antacids chronically.
“The FDA report cautions against high doses
or prolonged use of PPIs, because they’ve been
shown to increase the risk of infection, bone fractures and dementia.”
But the danger doesn’t stop there. All acid stopping drugs (not just PPIs) inhibit nutrient absorption, promote bacterial overgrowth, reduce resistance to infection and increase the risk of cancer and other serious diseases.”
Your body pH, which is tested through the urine, can also be a factor affecting your digestive pH. It’s not uncommon to find both of these pHs to be extremely different and at opposite extremes. If your urine pH, body pH, becomes way too acid there can be a negative feedback loop that suppresses your stomach’s production of even more acid. So an attempt to correct your digestive pH you might have to utilize techniques to improve your body pH. Since most of our chronic diseases develop in an inflammatory chemistry having an acid urine can be a indicator of inflammatory chemistry.
Utilizing alkaline water or alkalizing foods can have a healing effect on an inflammatory chemistry. You can ask for a pH food list to help correct your body pH if it is too acid or to alkaline. If your urine is too acid then you need to eat more alkalizing foods which are listed on the handout.

IN THE NEWS: Rhodiola shows antidepressant benefits in new study Rhodiola rosea, an herb deriving from Siberia and China, has shown benefits as an antidepressant agent in a recent study. Published in the March 15 edition of the journal Phytomedicine, Rhodiola was tested among 57 subjects suffering from mild to moderate depression over 12 weeks, against the antidepressant drug sertraline. Results of the study were measured using standard scoring tests. The results showed that Rhodiola offers antidepressant benefits, though sertraline proved more effective. But the researchers who conducted the study found Rhodiola imparts fewer negative effects than sertraline, making it a safer choice. NOTE: TREATING DEPRESSION NEEDS TO BE A HOLISTIC APPROACH, PICKING ONE HERB OR NUTRIENT THAT YOU READ ABOUT MIGHT NOT ADDRESS THE UNDERLYING CAUSE. ASK US ABOUT AN EFFECTIVE PROTOCOL.
CONDITION OF THE WEEK: HEALTH have you ever thought of the difference between healthcare and disease care? Most people haven’t. Let’s take headaches for an example, the average medical approach for headaches are some type of painkiller. Do you think you have the headaches because you’re low in painkillers? In natural healthcare we would consider nerve pressure in the neck, toxicity, dehydration just to name a few. In natural healthcare we have to find the source of the problem because we don’t use toxic drugs to cover up the symptoms. How many drugs do you think you would have to take every day to be healthy? Even if you’re an insulin-dependent diabetic the insulin doesn’t restore you to normal health. You will have health challenges the rest of your life. Health is a natural expression of the body’s genetic potentials through the nervous system. Keep your spine in proper alignment, eat foods consistent with your body type, drink plenty of water, stay active and spend time relaxing (prayer or meditation).
